One figure, given once, and it does not move
The whole quote comes out of the inspection. What the rug is made of, how big it is, how much has gone into it and what state the foundation is in. That produces a number, the number includes both driver trips, and nothing is added to it afterwards. A rug we cannot improve is described that way rather than quoted.

Rug washing Rockville, on small blocks close to town
From a house, to an estate, to a suburb
Rockville got its name the long way round. There was a dwelling called Rockville House. Its name went to the Rockville Estate, a subdivision of 114 allotments ranging from 2,000 to 20,000 square metres. The estate name then went to the whole locality, which was officially adopted in 1981. Nobody sat down and chose it, it simply got handed along until it stuck to the ground. The suburb it names covers 1.9 square kilometres three and a half kilometres northwest of the CBD, with 3,204 residents at the 2021 census against 3,237 five years earlier, at roughly 1,690 people to the square kilometre. Our own regional research files Rockville with the post-war brick and timber pockets through the middle of the city, and one walk down any street here confirms it.
Most of the wool we collect in this suburb was inherited, not bought. That changes the question entirely. It stops being what it cost and becomes what it is worth keeping.
A school past a hundred, a hospital past sixty
Rockville State School opened on 1 November 1922 and went past its centenary in 2022, so a hundred years of local children have gone through the same gate. St Andrews Toowoomba Hospital opened on 9 July 1966 with 42 beds and two operating theatres and serves a catchment far wider than the suburb itself. Black Gully Reserve and Bushnell Court Park thread green space between the streets. For 1.9 square kilometres that is a considerable amount of permanent infrastructure, and the effect on the housing is exactly what you would expect. Households stay. Rugs stay with them. A wool piece that has held the same spot in the same lounge room for thirty years is completely ordinary here, and it is generally structurally sound and simply loaded, which is the best combination we get to work with.
Small blocks, cold winters, and nowhere to work at home
Two things about Rockville shape the rug problem. The first is winter. The city sits seven hundred metres up with four real seasons, so heaters run from about May to September and houses close up for months. Fine soot settles well below the surface of a wool pile and dulls the colour from underneath, and moths take the same months as an invitation, because they want warmth, dry air and nobody moving anything. The second is space. Blocks here are small and packed, which is the whole character of the suburb, and there is simply nowhere to lay a rug flat, work through it properly and dry it under any kind of control. That is why the answer is a wash floor rather than a hire machine. The rug goes into water, everything held in the base of the weave comes out with the rinse, the moth treatment is carried through the whole weave in that same water, and the drying happens flat in a room built for it.

A house, an estate, a school and a hospital
One point nine square kilometres, three and a half kilometres from the CBD.
Rockville takes its name from the Rockville Estate, 114 allotments ranging from 2,000 to 20,000 square metres, which was itself named after Rockville House. The suburb name was officially adopted in 1981.
We deal in inheritance too. A good proportion of the wool on Rockville floors was handed down rather than bought, and pieces like that are worth the proper treatment.
A single dwelling passing its name to a subdivision, and the subdivision then passing it to a whole locality, is a layered piece of history for one of the smaller and denser inner suburbs of the city. The name arrived by inheritance rather than by decision.
Rockville State School opened on 1 November 1922 and passed its centenary in 2022, a hundred years of the same suburb teaching its own children.
Long lived institutions usually mean long lived households, and long lived households are where a rug gets kept for thirty years instead of replaced at ten.
St Andrews Toowoomba Hospital opened on 9 July 1966 with 42 beds and two operating theatres, giving the suburb a genuine health care anchor that serves well beyond its own boundaries. A school on one side of a hundred years and a hospital on the near side of sixty is a lot of continuity for 1.9 square kilometres.
At about 1,690 people to the square kilometre, Rockville packs more households into less ground than most of the suburbs around it, with Black Gully Reserve and Bushnell Court Park threaded between the streets.
Small blocks mean nowhere to lay a rug out and work on it at home, which is a large part of why people here send the piece to a wash floor instead.
The count went 3,237 in 2016 and 3,204 in 2021, which is a suburb that finished building out some time ago and has settled at its size rather than one still expanding into new land at the edges.

The questions Rockville asks most
Our block is small and there is nowhere to spread a rug out. Does that matter?
Not to us, and it is one of the main reasons this suburb sends rugs out rather than attempting them at home. Roll it, leave it by the door, and the driver takes it from there. Everything that needs space to be done properly gets done at the wash floor instead of in your carport.
How is a Rockville rug priced?
Out of the inspection and nothing else. Construction, size and condition produce a single figure that already has collection and delivery inside it. It is quoted once and it stays put. If we think a rug is not worth the money, we tell you and there is nothing to pay for the opinion.
The rug was my mother's and it looks tired. Is it worth doing?
Very often it is. Tired and worn out are different things, and most inherited wool arriving here is the first rather than the second. Soil packed into the base of the weave is what makes a rug look finished, and washing removes it. The foundation check tells us which of the two you have inside a few minutes.
There is a urine stain from an elderly pet on the lounge room rug. Can that go?
In most cases yes. Urine soaks straight past the wool and lodges in the backing, which is the reason surface sprays never hold for long. Immersion flushes the source out of the foundation, enzymes break the odour compounds down, and controlled drying stops the problem returning with the next humid spell.
Do you also collect in Cranley, Harlaxton and Newtown?
All three are on the same northwest day, along with Wilsonton, Wilsonton Heights and North Toowoomba. Because the blocks here are close together, neighbours often send two or three rugs on one visit, and every rug beyond the first has $20 off.
How long will the rug be gone?
About 7 days from pickup to delivery. Ask about 48 hour express, which costs more and exists for exactly the situations where a week does not work. Raise it at booking, because Rockville is worked on a set day rather than at short notice.
