William Robert Oxenford bought 160 acres on the Coomera in 1869 and served years on the council.

William Robert Oxenford purchased 160 acres in the Coomera district in 1869 and served for many years on the Coomera Shire Council, and the district around his land took his name. The railway reached it on 24 January 1889, with the local stop known plainly as the 39 Mile Platform, thirty-nine miles out from South Brisbane, and the station closed on 30 June 1964 with the old line. For a century Oxenford stayed farms and timber country by the river crossing, waiting for the corridor to arrive.
The studios at Oxenford have been making films and television since 1988.

In the mid-1980s the Italian film producer Dino De Laurentiis commissioned a film studio on the flats at Oxenford. By the time it opened in 1988 it was in Village Roadshow's hands, and as Village Roadshow Studios it has been one of the busiest screen production sites in the country ever since. Sound stages, water tanks and backlots sit just off the motorway, and productions come and go behind the fences with the suburb barely glancing up.
