Rug washing Arundel, from the doorstep in

A suburb whose name came off a gateway

Arundel is 10.3 square kilometres of established family streets 8.2 kilometres northwest of Southport, filling the middle of the corridor between the M1 and the Broadwater suburbs. Coombabah Creek runs the western boundary and wetland country holds the northern edge. Before the estates this was farm country with one memorable entrance, a property whose archway carried the name Arundel, and that word on a gate is what ended up on the whole map. There were 9,575 residents at the 2011 census, 10,246 in 2016 and 11,171 in 2021. A suburb named at a front gate seems a reasonable place to run a business that works at front doors.

You hand over a rolled rug at the door, and the next time you see it, it is back in the same room and dry to the backing.

One era of housing, one era of rugs

Almost the whole suburb was built inside two decades: large brick family homes from the estate waves of the late 1980s and 1990s, mostly detached on comfortable blocks, with townhouse pockets around the edges. Households run to school kids, dogs and double garages. The rugs are family workhorses, wool blends and synthetics over tile, with better wool pieces turning up in the renovated originals near the golf-course land. Because the housing arrived in one era, a great many of those rugs are reaching the same point at the same time, which is why this suburb sends us a lot of first proper washes. The townhouse pockets around the edges add a second pattern, with smaller pieces on smaller floors that still see the same dogs and the same weather. Both types travel exactly the same way, rolled at the door and back to the door, and both get read on our floor before any figure is named.

One suburb back from the water, and it shows

Arundel sits one suburb behind the Broadwater, which is close enough to share the humid, still-aired summer and too far in to get the waterfront breeze that would move any of it along. The wetland margin on the creek side adds moisture to the air right through the year, and storm season regularly drops hard rain through an open patio door. What that combination produces is a rug that never fully dries between events. Pet accidents keep reasserting themselves rather than fading, spills stay chemically busy instead of going quiet, and mould gets underway beneath furniture well before anybody notices a smell in the room. None of that can be reached from the pile surface, because all of it lives at the base. A full immersion wash at our Yatala floor flushes the whole load out, and the controlled drying room afterwards does the part that Arundel air simply will not do for you at home.

Rug Cleaning Arundel

Your part of this takes about thirty seconds at the front door twice: once handing over a rolled rug, and once taking it back.

Everything between those two moments is ours. The booking is a form you fill in whenever it suits, the window is confirmed once the run day is set, and the driver takes the rug rolled rather than asking you to fold or carry anything. It is bathed by hand at our own floor, dried in our own room, and returned to the doorstep it left from.

  • Two doorstep moments, that is all
  • Rolled rather than folded
  • Back to the same doorstep

Rug Washing Arundel

Wool blends and synthetics over tile is the standard Arundel arrangement, and immersion is what a rug on hard floors actually wants.

Hard floors reflect everything back up into the pile rather than absorbing any of it, so the rug ends up carrying the room's whole load on its own. That load settles low, against the foundation. Submerging the piece releases it in one go at the right acidity, and the rinse keeps running until the water stops carrying anything out of it.

  • Hard floors load the rug
  • Released in one immersion
  • Rinsed until the water clears
Most popular

Stain Removal

Whatever came through the door on a school shoe, plus the food, drink and craft accidents that a full double-garage household generates.

Most of this list is recoverable, and the deciding factor is nearly always what was done in the first few minutes rather than the first few weeks. We identify the fibre, test the dye, use the mildest treatment that will actually shift the mark, and then say plainly where it landed. Supermarket products beat us more often than stains do.

  • Fibre named before treatment
  • Mildest thing that works
  • Where it landed, plainly

Pet Stain and Odour

The dog goes out the back door and comes in the front, and the rug in between keeps score. Urine settles into the backing, out of reach.

Wetland-edge air on this side of the suburb is what keeps it alive. A treatment worked into the pile leaves the source underneath and the next humid week hands the smell straight back to you. Immersion goes to the layer where it actually sits, an enzyme stage handles what water leaves, and a complete dry stops the whole thing recurring.

  • The source sits underneath
  • Enzymes after the immersion
  • Complete dry stops the return

Odour Removal

Shut the house up for a week in February and the rug is what you smell when you open the door again on the way back in.

That is because the rug holds more air and more surface area than anything else in the room, so it takes the largest share of whatever the house has been breathing. Airing barely touches it, since the smell is a residue in the fibre. The bath dissolves it, the rinse removes it, and the rug comes back neutral rather than scented.

  • The rug takes the largest share
  • Residue dissolved and rinsed
  • Neutral rather than scented

Rug Spot Cleaning

Sometimes you open the door to one mark and an otherwise perfect rug, and the sensible answer is to deal with it where it lies.

Provided the rest of the piece is sound, that is often right. The failure mode is effort: rubbing spreads the edge outward and flattens the pile so it catches the light differently from then on. So the work stays light, the area gets groomed back, and if the rug genuinely needs the bath, you are told so.

  • Sensible when the rug is sound
  • Light hands, groomed back
  • Told when it needs the bath

Rug Steam Cleaning

The piece just inside the front door is usually machine-made and usually the hardest-worked rug in the house, and extraction suits it well.

Hot water extraction handles that construction properly and puts the rug back quickly, which matters when it is the piece everybody walks over first. It is not for hand knotted wool or silk, and we will not run it on them. What the rug is made of decides the method, the reason gets explained, and the bigger job is never pushed.

  • Made for the entry rug
  • Back in place quickly
  • Never on knotted wool

Rug Dry Cleaning

Occasionally a rug arrives that cannot meet water at all, and a swab establishes that in seconds before any water is drawn.

Where colour moves on the swab, the piece is worked in sections using low moisture compounds instead. The method is slow and we reach for it sparingly. It exists because an irreversible loss of colour on an older rug is a far worse outcome than a clean that stops slightly short of perfect.

  • A swab, before any water
  • Sectioned and unhurried
  • For colour that will move

Water Damage Restoration

Storm season drops hard rain straight through an open patio door here, and a hot water system will do the same job without any weather at all.

The phone call decides most of it. Get in touch while the rug is still soaked, and say whether it was tap water or drain water, because those two go down separate roads from the very start. We stabilise, then dry, then bathe. Whether restoring the piece is worth the money is put to you before you commit.

  • Ring while it is still wet
  • Name the water at the start
  • Straight read on the money

Mould Rug Cleaning

Bloom under a lounge on the creek side of the suburb, or a musty patch on a rug that spent a wet summer folded in a garage.

The wetland margin keeps moisture in the air here all year, and without the waterfront breeze there is little to move it along. A rug that never fully dries has everything a colony needs. Treated water lifts the growth and the film beneath it, the rinse takes the remainder, and our drying room removes the conditions that let it start.

  • Moisture that never moves on
  • Antimicrobial wash and rinse
  • Conditions taken away too

Rug Moth Treatment

Behind a door that always stands open, or under a bed in the spare room, is where the wool rug in an Arundel house gets into trouble.

Moths need wool, darkness and stillness, and a four-bedroom house supplies all three somewhere. Killing the adults on show leaves the eggs behind, so the damage resumes a season later. A treated bath finishes the whole population at once, the rinse clears the casings, and the loss becomes measurable. Storage advice comes back with the rug.

  • Eggs are what gets missed
  • Casings rinsed clear
  • Storage advice comes back

Stain Protection

The last thing that happens before a rug comes back to your door is a clear finish, and in a household with kids it pays for itself early.

Liquid stays in the surface fibres for a while rather than travelling down where it becomes our problem, and in a house with children that head start is the entire point. Nothing changes about how the rug feels, looks or catches light. It is applied at the end of the wash, so there is no second visit to arrange.

  • Tea towel instead of a call
  • Feel and colour untouched
  • Applied before it comes back

About twenty-five minutesOut on Olsen Avenue or Brisbane Road and north on the M1, twenty-five to thirty kilometres each way.

That drive is ours to make. Arundel sits mid-loop on the northern run between the Broadwater stops and the inland corridor, so both trips ride the schedule.

Three Arundel stories

A name on an archway, a poet's school, a suburb that arrived at once

Farm country that became eleven thousand addresses in a generation.

The name on the archway

Arundel is recorded as taking its name from a property sign on the Brisbane to Labrador road.

A suburb named at a gateway suits a business that does everything at the doorstep: the driver, the rolled rug, and the job itself done properly at our own facility.

The school with the poet's name

A.B. Paterson College opened here on 1 January 1991 with 262 students.

School-run families are our steadiest customers on this loop, and Arundel sits in the middle of it. A form booking and a rug at the door fit around a morning rather than interrupting it.

The suburb that arrived at once

Arundel held 229 people in 1986; official naming came in 1989, and the estates did the rest.

One era of housing means a lot of rugs reaching the same point at the same time, and a first proper wash resets a decade of family traffic in a single visit.

Good to know

Arundel questions, answered straight

What does rug cleaning in Arundel cost?

The rug decides that rather than the postcode, so the inspection comes first. Size, fibre and condition set one figure, and it holds from there with collection and return already included. Where a piece will not repay the work, we tell you at the assessment rather than after an invoice.

Do I need to do anything except hand the rug over?

No. Roll it if you like, or leave it and the driver will. Nothing needs folding, bagging or carrying to a kerb, and there is no shopfront to visit at either end. Two brief moments at your own front door are the entire customer-side of the job.

Nobody was home when the dog had an accident. Is that harder to fix?

A little, because urine that sat unattended for a working day travels further into the backing than one caught within minutes. It is the same problem though, and the same fix. Immersion clears the backing, an enzyme stage settles the source, and any colour movement is reported before money is spent.

Our rug has never been washed in fifteen years. Is it too late?

Almost certainly not. A lot of what makes a family rug look finished is soil sitting at the foundation rather than genuine wear, and it comes out. We will look at the pile and the backing and tell you honestly which of the two you are dealing with before quoting.

Do you also collect from Coombabah, Parkwood and Biggera Waters?

Yes, along with Labrador and Helensvale. Arundel sits mid-loop between them, so several households go into one load on the same day, and every rug after the first has $20 off.

Can a rug come back in two days?

Where something has already fixed the date, the 48-hour express service runs at additional cost. Otherwise about 7 days is the standard, and either way the rug leaves our drying room dry through the base rather than dry where your hand lands.
