One firm figure for a rug too big to shift
Size alone does not set the price. The fibre, the construction and the actual condition all get read first, and the figure that comes back is the figure on the invoice.

Rug washing Ocean Shores, where the rugs are the largest we collect
A planned estate, not a town that grew
Ocean Shores sits on the ridge above the Brunswick Valley in Byron Shire, twenty kilometres north of Byron Bay, with Billinudgel to the north and South Golden Beach and New Brighton between the estate and the sea. The 2021 census counted 4,818 people, up from 255 in 1976. It is unlike anything else on this run: a planned estate rather than a town that grew, with detached houses on curving ridge streets laid out from the late 1960s and filled in steadily ever since. There is very little heritage timber and no historic main street, which makes this the most conventional suburban rug population in the group and the most straightforward pickup we do down here.
Drying is where most rug cleaning goes wrong, and a big rug is where it goes wrong worst.
Bigger rooms mean bigger rugs
The estate's floor plans are generous by the standards of the coastal towns nearby, with large tiled or timber living areas and a rug in the middle of each one doing all the softening. That single fact drives most of the local work. A rug of that size cannot be lifted casually, cannot be cleaned properly on a deck, and above all cannot be dried at home. Householders who try end up with a piece that is damp in the middle for a week and smells worse than it did before they started.
Our model exists for exactly this. The driver takes the rolled rug from the door, and if it takes two people to carry it then two people come. It is immersed fully at Yatala, worked by hand, rinsed until the water is clear and then dried flat in a controlled room until the backing is dry as well as the face. It comes back rolled and ready to lay, and nobody in the house has to wrestle anything.
Ridge air, beach sand and turf grit
Up on the ridge there is more breeze and less standing damp than down in the valley at Mullumbimby, but this is still humid subtropical country a couple of kilometres from open surf. Salt carries in on the air, sand comes home from the beaches below on everybody's feet, and the fine turf grit off the course tracks in on shoes. All three settle at the base of the pile rather than on top of it, and all three are invisible until the rug has quietly gone flat and lost its colour.
None of that is dramatic and none of it needs an emergency. It needs a wash on a sensible interval, an honest assessment when the rug arrives, and a straight answer about how much of what you are looking at is soil and how much is genuine wear. Most of the time it is soil, and most of the time the rug comes back looking considerably better than its owner expected.
Our Northern NSW listing, and where an Ocean Shores rug goes
Our Northern NSW office
Premier Rug Cleaning and Washing - Northern NSW
The listing sets out the country we work rather than an address you can call into. No depot, no branch and no drop-off point exists in Ocean Shores or anywhere near it. Our driver comes to the house, and the rug is handled only by our own team from that point on.
The shortest trip on the southern run
Ocean Shores and Brunswick Heads are the closest of the seven towns to the wash floor and open the southern day. The run is still booked in advance rather than same day, and any distance component is confirmed on your quote before the work is agreed.
An American singer's name, a course laid out by two touring pros, and a town planned for far more people
Fifty years of houses on the same curving streets.
Ocean Shores was named after Pat Boone's home town in Washington State, and he helped pay for it.
A town with a name borrowed from the other side of the world is good company for the rugs we handle, most of which were made a long way from here and travelled further than anyone remembers.
Wendell West of Seattle bought a 3,700 acre property here in the late 1960s, backed by the American singer Pat Boone, who by the sources' own account lost a lot of money in the project. The name came straight from Boone's own residence at Ocean Shores, Washington. The town was established in 1977 and is one of very few places in Australia named after somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.
The 18-hole course was laid out in the early 1970s by Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin.
Homes wrapped around a course collect a particular kind of soil: fine turf grit and grass tracked in on shoes, which sits in the base of the pile rather than on top of it, exactly where a vacuum stops working.
Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin designed the layout in the early 1970s, threading it between Marshalls Creek and the Brunswick River. The front nine is open and the back nine more tree-lined, and the whole estate was planned around the course, which is why the street pattern of Ocean Shores looks the way it does from the air.
The development was intended as a community resort of 22,000 residents. Fifty years on, about a quarter of that live here.
Houses from five decades on one street means rugs from five decades too, from 1970s wool through to last year's flat weave. All of them get the same honest assessment, including a plain answer when one is not worth washing.
The plan was ambitious and the reality took its time: 255 people in 1976, and 4,818 at the 2021 census. Growth has been real and steady rather than sudden, and the estate filled in decade by decade instead of all at once, which is why Ocean Shores holds houses from every building era since the 1970s side by side on the same streets.

Ocean Shores questions, answered directly
How much does rug cleaning in Ocean Shores cost?
Size is part of it but not all of it. The fibre, the construction and the condition are read on the bench before a figure is given, and that figure holds through to the invoice. If a rug will not improve enough to be worth the job, we tell you at the assessment rather than after the work.
Our rug is too big for two of us to move. Is that a problem?
Not at all, and it is the most common question we get from this estate. Leave it in place and tell us the rough size when you book. The driver comes prepared, brings a second pair of hands where the rug needs it, and rolls and loads the piece for you. It comes back rolled and is laid out again the same way.
Do you collect from Ocean Shores, and how does the distance work?
Yes. This is the closest of the seven Northern Rivers towns to the wash floor at about 110 kilometres, and it is the first stop of the southern day. The run is still scheduled ahead rather than offered on demand, and any distance component is confirmed upfront on the quote.
Why can I not just clean a big rug at home?
You can wet one at home. Drying it is the part that defeats every attempt. A large rug holds water in the middle long after the edges feel dry, and a rug left damp underneath will smell within a fortnight and can grow mould in that time. Drying flat in a controlled room is the stage that makes the difference, and it needs space no household has.
The dog sleeps on the rug and there is now an odour. Can it be removed?
Yes, once the source is taken out of the backing rather than the pile. Urine soaks through and keeps producing smell from underneath, which is why sprays only hold for a week or two. Immersion rinses that layer out, an enzyme stage neutralises what is left, and complete drying prevents the damp weeks bringing it back.
Do you also collect from Brunswick Heads and Mullumbimby?
Yes, and from Byron Bay, Lennox Head, Ballina and Lismore further down the same run. Households nearby are welcome to share a collection, and $20 off applies to each rug after the first when several go on the one pickup.
