St Augustine's College opened months before the suburb around it was named.

The college took its first classes on 29 January 2003, a Prep to Year 12 Catholic college on the new district's high ground. The suburb around it was officially named and bounded on 19 September 2003, eight months later, which makes Augustine Heights a rare Queensland suburb that is younger than its own school.

The timber church now standing at St Augustine's College began life as St Stephen's Catholic Church at Laravale, opened near Beaudesert on 18 February 1923 by Archbishop James Duhig before a crowd of 400. On 28 July 2003 the entire building was relocated to Augustine Heights, where it serves as St Monica's Chapel for the school and the wider community, a hundred year old building inside a twenty year old suburb.
