Mount Gravatt East runs to 4.6 square kilometres roughly eight kilometres out from town to the south-east, and with 12,428 residents at the 2021 census it is the biggest of the Mount Gravatt suburbs. It was gazetted in 1967, taking its name from the mountain next door. What it has that the others do not is a genuinely complete run of post-war streets: 1950s and 1960s homes with gardens that have had sixty years to establish themselves, now being renovated by a second wave of young families. The furnishing habit that came with those houses is remarkably persistent. Carpeted bedrooms, and one good rug holding the front room together, often the same rug for forty years. Sixty years of waiting, then a decade of building.
House lots were auctioned at Cavendish and Creek Roads back in 1891.
Streets that waited sixty years for their houses now hold rugs that have served forty of them. Long-serving pieces come through here every week, assessed honestly, and every job carries a free re-wash guarantee behind it.
This suburb's paper history starts on 20 June 1891, when the Blantyre estate was subdivided and auctioned, offering allotments at the corner of Cavendish Road and Creek Road. The buyers were betting decades early: the district stayed semi-rural until the post-war boom, when those same corners finally filled with the brick homes that define the place today. The 1891 names are still on the street signs.
Opened as Creek Road State School in 1955, renamed within months.

The Catholic college has taught on its grounds since February 1964.

I have a new viscose rug. Is it safe to clean?
