A district that adjusted its name, not its nature
The district first answered to Highlands, after a local property run as a model dairy farm on the good grass under the range. When the Postmaster-General's Department arrived to connect the telephone in 1924, the name clashed with another Highlands already on the books, and the district settled on Highvale instead, surely one of the few Queensland localities renamed by the telephone network. The community's arc is told neatest by its school: opened in February 1921 for the returned soldiers of the First World War who took up the district's new farm blocks, renamed Highvale State School in 1943, closed in January 1968 as families consolidated into the bigger Samford-area schools. Districts that began as soldier-settlement farms tend to keep their patience, and this one has, right down to how it maintains its gear. The name adjusted; the practical, self-reliant character never did.
Range weather, and what it leaves in wool

A renaming, a school and a showground
The district's history is as practical as its residents.
In 1924 the telephone network made the district choose a new name.

After the Queensland Government acquired the old Highlands property in 1919 and cut it into farm blocks for returned soldiers of the First World War, the new community built its school. Highlands State School opened on 7 February 1921, took the name Highvale State School in 1943, and closed on 29 January 1968 as the district's children consolidated into larger Samford-area schools. Three dates, one complete arc of a farming community.
The district's show ring, formally the Denis Goodwin Reserve, sits inside Highvale.

Our rug is enormous. Is it too big to wash properly?
No rug in a Highvale living room has beaten the Yatala floor yet. Oversized pieces are rolled correctly at collection, washed in full immersion like everything else, and sent home only once the drying room signs off. Size changes the logistics, never the outcome.
How does wood-heater smoke affect a rug, and does washing remove it?
Smoke settles as fine residue through the pile and adds its note to the rug's archive of dust and damp. Vacuuming cannot reach it. The full wash dissolves that residue at the base, and the rug comes home carrying no trace of last winter's fires.
