Pet Stain and Odour
The new puppy has no respect for provenance. Accidents on good rugs are flushed from the foundation by immersion and treated with enzymes at the source, safely for wool, silk and old dyes alike.
Urine is acidic and it works on dyes as well as noses, so on a fine rug it needs to come all the way out, not be masked. The immersion wash carries the residue away, the enzyme treatment finishes the chemistry, and complete drying closes the case.

Mould Rug Cleaning

A school into its second century says everything about how this suburb treats what it values. We wash rugs on the same principle: honest assessment first, then care that assumes the rug is staying in the family.
The school opened on 8 July 1895 as Clayfield State School, then in July 1901 traded the suburb's name for the nearby railway junction's and has been Eagle Junction State School ever since. More than 125 years on it remains the heart of local family life, with generations of Clayfield households walking the same few streets to the same gate.

Clayfield College opened on 9 February 1931 with nine students and five teachers, on a campus that had earlier housed the school which moved across the river to become Brisbane Boys' College. It grew into a full secondary school by 1935, opened its boarding house in 1939, and remains one of the Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association's Queensland schools. Its motto, Luceat Lux Vestra, translates as let your light shine.

Clayfield is one of the few Brisbane suburbs named for what was actually in the ground: fine white-grey sedimentary clay, dug on the Albion side and fired in brickworks that worked between Oriel Road and Reeve Street near Sandgate Road. The bricks went into the growing northside, the pits gave the district its name, and the suburb built over the old clayfield became one of Brisbane's most heritage-listed.

We inherited a rug with the house and know nothing about it. Where do we start?
Start with the assessment, which is exactly what it is for. We identify the fibre, the construction and roughly where and when the rug was made, then tell you what a wash would achieve and what it would cost. You finish the conversation knowing what you own, and nothing obliges you to go further.
The rug is close to a hundred years old. Is washing it in water wise?
Often yes, sometimes no, and the difference sits in the foundation and the dyes rather than the birthday. Dyes are tested first, the structure is checked, and if immersion is not in the rug's interest we say so and recommend the dry-clean route instead. Age alone rules nothing out; fragility does, and we check for it before deciding anything.
We are having the floors repolished. Should the rugs be washed before they go back down?
It is the ideal moment. Sanding throws fine dust that settles deep into any rug left in the house, so send the rugs to us when the floor work starts and they come back clean, dry and ready to lie on the fresh boards. Freshly polished hoop pine under a freshly washed rug is the full Clayfield reset.
Why wash in water at all instead of dry cleaning everything?
Because water is what wool and most hand-knotted rugs are built for, and it is the only medium that fully rinses fine soil from the foundation. Dry cleaning earns its place with constructions and dye sets that cannot tolerate immersion. We use each where it belongs, and the assessment decides which is which.
The puppy singled out the inherited Persian. Can urine come out without hurting the dyes?
Yes, and this is precisely the job for a specialist. Urine attacks old dyes as it dries, so the residue has to leave the foundation entirely, not be sealed under a deodoriser. We test the dyes, flush the rug by full immersion, treat the source with enzymes safe for wool and silk, and dry it through. The Persian outlives the puppy phase intact.
Do you collect from Hendra and Wooloowin on the same day as Clayfield?
Yes, one inner-north run serves Clayfield, Wooloowin, Hendra, Ascot and the streets between the stations. Separate households book separately onto the same day, and any booking that sends more than one rug saves $20 on each rug after the first.
