Specialist care, stated plainly
A suburb full of inherited Persians has heard every carpet cleaner's pitch. Ours is short: 29 years washing rugs by hand, IICRC certification, and an assessment that sometimes ends with us advising against the wash. If a rug should not go in the water, you hear that from us first.

The machine-made rug in our nursery had been overdue for a proper clean. I asked for a low-chemical approach for the machine-made rug, and it came back fresh without that sharp cleaning smell.

Rug Washing Ascot Trusts With Its Best
Fine homes, finer rugs
Ascot holds the high ground six kilometres northeast of the city, and it has been one of Brisbane's serious addresses since the racing crowd built grand homes along its ridges in the late 1800s. The streets under the figs and jacarandas carry sprawling verandahed Queenslanders and Federation houses with formal rooms, polished hardwood and staircases built to impress. The rugs live up to the setting: Persian and Oriental pieces bought or inherited as investments, large wool rugs in the formal lounge, and silk that owners are rightly nervous about. Premier Rug Cleaning is the specialist those pieces are waiting for, with 29 years of hand washing behind every job.
Deep verandahs and mature figs keep floors shaded all year, and formal rooms sit closed and still through the humid months, so fine pile accumulates moisture and dust with nobody watching.
Beautiful houses, quiet enemies
The same features that make these houses beautiful work quietly against their rugs. Immersion washing at Yatala flushes the fibre clean, and our drying rooms finish the job completely, which matters most for wool and matters absolutely for silk.
When the right answer is no
Some rugs should not be washed, and in Ascot we say so more often than anywhere else on the northside run. Unstable antique dyes, silk foundations past their strength, damage that water would finish: the assessment at your door is where those calls get made, before anything is committed. It is the same discipline the suburb applies to everything it keeps well, from the school's murals to the houses themselves. When the answer is yes, the piece is dye-tested, washed by hand at Yatala and dried completely, then brought home on the day the run covers Hamilton and Clayfield.

Three Ascot institutions
A heritage school with murals, a high street of specialists and the park a suburb spent decades perfecting.
The 1920 brick school on the hill, heritage listed with rare classroom murals.
Murals survive a hundred years of school days only when someone protects them properly. The fine rugs in Ascot homes deserve that same standard: specialist hands, correct methods, no shortcuts.
Ascot State School opened on 24 May 1920 with 124 pupils and doubled inside a year, growing through the 1920s into the trio of brick buildings that still anchor it: Block A from 1920, Block C by 1923 and Block B from 1928, which holds rare educational murals. It became a state heritage place in April 2017 and has taught a century of Ascot children under the same tiled roofs.
The tram-era high street linking the river to the hill, trading since the 1890s.
A century ago this strip kept a specialist for everything, including the washing. We carry that tradition on from Yatala: one trade, done properly, collected from and returned to your door.
Racecourse Road grew from a carriage route into a genuine high street after the tram arrived in 1899, and by the 1920s it carried a specialist for every trade: butchers, bakers, confectioners, chemists, a motor garage that became a landmark, even its own laundry. The trams stopped in the 1960s but the strip never did, and more than 130 businesses now run its boutiques, cafes and restaurants.
The fig-shaded park at the heart of Ascot's finest streets, a reserve since 1937.
Ascot spent decades keeping this green square right, and that mindset is exactly how good rugs survive: steady, proper care beats replacement every time. Our 29 years of hand washing is that care.
Oriel Park served as an early headquarters for the local Girl Guides and was formally declared a recreation reserve in 1937. The council then spent a decade from 1959 buying surrounding houses to widen its boundaries, and the tram ran along its Alexandra Road edge until 1969. Under the old figs, jacarandas and poincianas sit Federation-era picnic rotundas and a bamboo grove, which makes it one of the northside's most elegant small parks.

Ascot questions, answered plainly
Should a silk rug ever go through full immersion?
Only when the assessment says it can. Silk is tested for dye stability and construction first, and some pieces get a gentler process or a recommendation against washing altogether. That judgement call is exactly what you are paying a specialist for.
Who handles the rug between our door and the facility?
Our own driver collects it rolled, it travels on our run to Yatala, and the washing is done by hand by our team. The same run brings it home. It is one pair of responsible hands from start to finish, not a chain of contractors.
Is Clayfield on Ascot's pickup day too?
Yes. Ascot, Hamilton, Clayfield and Albion share the same northside collection day, and each rug beyond the first on the booking comes off $20, which suits households sending the lounge rug and the hall runner together.
What if you think the rug should not be washed at all?
Then we say so at the assessment and explain why. It happens with some antique dyes, some damage and the occasional piece worth less than its wash. The decision stays yours, but you make it with a straight opinion in hand.
How is an inherited Persian priced for washing?
On size, fibre and condition, judged at your door before anything is booked in. The figure the driver gives is the figure you pay, the turnaround runs seven days with complete drying, and a 48-hour express can be arranged at additional cost when timing is tight.
A puppy and a Persian rug have met, badly. Can urine come out of a fine rug safely?
In most cases, yes. The urine has to be removed at its source in the foundation, which means a wash, and a fine rug means the wash is preceded by dye and fibre testing, then done gently by hand. Where testing says the piece cannot take it safely, we tell you that plainly and discuss what can be done instead.
