A considered quote for the ridge's good rugs
Rugs bought for finished homes get a finished process: proper inspection, one figure, and no adjustments after the fact. Unworthy pieces get told the truth instead.

Rug washing for the renovated ridges
Chamferboard homes, hardwood floors, careful owners
Wavell Heights is one of Brisbane's great post-war suburbs: chamferboard and brick homes from the 1940s and 1950s on high blocks across 4.1 square kilometres of ridgeline, 10,336 residents at the 2021 census, and ten heritage-listed properties among them. The area was West Nundah until 1941, when the city council renamed it for Field Marshal Lord Wavell, then commanding Allied forces in the Middle East. The past two decades have belonged to the renovators: young professional families moving in for the school zones, pulling up carpet, and finding sound hardwood underneath. The renovation always ends the same way, boards polished and a quality rug laid down, wool or Persian, bought for the long term. Keeping that rug worthy of its room is our department.
The carpet comes up, the boards get polished, the good rug goes down. Then someone has to keep it good.
First in line for the storms
Ridge suburbs take the northside's weather first, and Wavell Heights cops the summer storm cells head on. What follows each storm matters more to a rug than the storm itself: humid air sits in closed-up homes for days afterwards, and wool on timber absorbs it steadily, holding moisture against the fibre where it flattens colour and starts must in the foundation. Everyday grit binds into the damp pile, the cycle repeats with each cell that rolls through, and within a few seasons the rug that finished the renovation reads tired against its own boards. Surface treatment cannot answer any of it, since none of it lives at the surface, and none of it is actually wear. The bath at our Yatala facility rinses the foundation clean, and the drying rooms square it away properly dry for the next round of ridge weather.
Service tuned to the school-zone timetable
Households here run tight schedules, so the service runs tighter. Booking takes a minute online, the rolled rug is handed over at the door on the scheduled ridge day, and both directions travel as part of the run. The van takes the airport corridor to the Gateway and the M1, about 53 kilometres to the wash floor, and roughly a week later the rug is back on its boards, hand washed, dried through the backing and groomed straight. Families with several pieces book them as a set, since a set booking prices each extra piece at $20 off, and the written 48-hour guarantee backs every piece individually. The honest assessment holds on the ridge as it does everywhere: a rug not worth the professional treatment is named at the door, never on the invoice.

Where a Wavell Heights rug takes its bath
Wavell Heights shares the scheduled ridge day with Chermside and Kedron, both travel legs ride with the run, and your window is locked the moment the day is.
A field marshal, a first-class oval and the club next door
The suburb's name is young; its institutions are not.
Renamed mid-war in 1941 for the Allied commander of the hour.
A suburb this settled holds rugs with decades of service in them. Our assessment tells you which pieces repay a full hand wash, with 29 years behind the answer.
Until 1941 this was West Nundah, a name that said where it was rather than what it was. That year Brisbane City Council renamed it for Field Marshal Lord Wavell, Commander-in-Chief of Allied forces in the Middle East at the time, and the suburb built its identity from there: Wavell Heights State School opened on 27 January 1948, Our Lady of the Angels' followed on 22 January 1950, and Wavell State High School completed the set on 27 January 1959. A wartime name became a schools suburb, and the school zones still drive its property market.
First-class cricket and century-old hockey sharing a southern boundary.
Serious sport runs on scheduled maintenance, and serious rugs are no different. A wash every few years at Yatala keeps good wool match-fit for decades.
Shaw Park spreads across Wavell Heights' southern edge carrying more sporting weight than most suburban parks in the country. It is home to Valley Hockey Club, established in 1921 and among Australia's oldest and most successful, fielding around 700 players a season. Beside it, Ian Healy Oval at 128 Shaw Road, named for the Australian wicketkeeper, gained first-class status in 2021 and hosted a Sheffield Shield fixture that year, with Mercer Park rounding out the precinct.
The club carrying the suburb's name, just over the Chermside boundary.
The club's founding generation bought rugs to last a lifetime. We wash those rugs the way that generation expects work done: by hand, honestly, guaranteed in writing.
The Kedron-Wavell RSL Sub Branch formed in 1968 when the Kedron and Wavell Heights sub branches amalgamated, and its services club opened on 18 December 1970 on Kittyhawk Drive, which sits across the boundary in Chermside. The club has grown past 65,000 members and has put more than 12 million dollars into local community groups since 2015. Half its name and much of its membership belong to Wavell Heights, and for the surrounding streets it remains the default local.

Wavell Heights questions off the ridge
What should we budget for rug cleaning in Wavell Heights?
The rug's size, its fibre and its condition make the decision at inspection before one fixed quote is offered. The ridge day covers collection and return, and a piece that will not repay professional washing is identified at the assessment, not after it.
We are mid-renovation. When should the rug be cleaned, before or after the work?
After, always. Renovation dust is fine, abrasive and finds everything, so washing beforehand wastes the wash. Book the pickup for the week the trades finish, and the rug lands back on the new boards genuinely clean, with none of the build's grit in its pile.
Dog urine has reached the foundation of our good Persian. Is that beyond fixing?
No, that layer is precisely what the process is built for. The bath empties the foundation through the backing, an enzyme stage completes the chemistry, and a full dry removes the humid-week trigger. Any effect on the dyes is reported at the assessment before anything else proceeds.
Can Chermside and Kedron households book onto the same run?
Yes, one scheduled ridge day covers Wavell Heights with both neighbours. Combined family bookings are common practice, and each rug added after the first books at $20 off, which compounds quickly across households.
Is a faster turnaround available before a family gathering?
Those dates are what the 48-hour express is for: the identical wash and complete dry at additional cost, put first on the floor. The standard cycle runs about 7 days, so with a little notice either path lands in time.
The rug looks dull even though we vacuum weekly. What are we missing?
Nothing you could reach: the dullness is bound grit at the foundation, below any vacuum's working depth. It accumulates regardless of surface care, and the immersion bath is what releases it. Most owners are startled by the colour that comes back.
