An honest quote for rugs kept for decades
Long term owners can tell when they are being handled. The rug is inspected, the price is set once, and if a piece is not worth the work you will be told.

Rug washing Benowa for households that keep things
The suburb where rugs get kept, not replaced
Benowa sits in the middle of the central Gold Coast, 6.6 square kilometres between the loops of the Nerang, with 9,889 residents recorded at the 2021 census. It runs in two halves. North of Ashmore Road is the established garden belt: solid brick and rendered homes from the 1970s onward on generous blocks, with mature trees and long term owners. South of it, Benowa Waters reaches the river in single level waterfront homes with pontoons at the back fence. Both halves share a habit that shapes our work here. People buy a good rug and then keep it, often for twenty or thirty years, moving it from room to room as the house changes around it. That decision is entirely sound, and it only works if the rug is properly washed every few years rather than only ever vacuumed.
A rug bought to last thirty years needs a wash every few of them, not just a vacuum every week.
Big tiled rooms and the slow dulling nobody sees
The housing stock explains most of what arrives at our wash floor from this suburb. Large tiled living areas softened by one or two big rugs, plenty of them wool, many bought long enough ago that the receipt is gone. Hard floors put a rug to work every day of its life, and the wear that matters is not on the surface. Fine dust settles through the pile and lodges against the foundation, where every footstep grinds it against the fibre. Colour goes first, slowly and evenly, so the change is invisible day to day and obvious the moment a clean rug comes back into the room. Owners here are not careless, quite the opposite. The dulling is simply too gradual for anyone living with it to catch, and the depth is still there underneath waiting to be recovered.
A few bends up the river, and still humid
Benowa is a few bends up the Nerang from the surf, which means it takes the humidity without the front row spray. Canal water sits at the back fence in the Waters end, the air stays damp right through summer, and salt still arrives on the northeasterly even this far in. The stillest, dampest place in a canal home is the space under a sideboard or a bed where the rug has not moved in a year, and that is where mould starts. Immersion washing flushes salt, spores and grit out of the foundation together, and the rug is then dried completely, which is the part no garage or verandah on the Coast can manage in February. Collection is straightforward. Ross Street and the Waters both sit on the western side of our central loop.

The trip a Benowa rug makes
Nobody here drives it. Benowa sits on the western side of our central Gold Coast loop with Bundall and Carrara, and both trips ride along on that day's run.
A bloodwood name, a golf course and a school with the wrong name
One name has held through tree, plantation and family streets.
Benowa is recorded as a Bundjalung word, taken up by an 1870 plantation.
A suburb that has kept one name through tree, plantation and family streets understands continuity. So do the owners of thirty year old wool rugs, and keeping those in service is exactly our line of work.
The name is recorded as coming from the Bundjalung word Boonow, for the bloodwood tree, reshaped by the settlers who followed. Robert Muir pioneered sugar here in 1870 on the Nerang River's northern bank, and by October 1887 the Benowa Estate and Plantation was being advertised for auction in five subdivisions, the moment the plantation began turning into the suburb. A handful of homes from the 1890s still mark that first generation of streets.
The resort and 27 hole course that put tournament golf on the Nerang, open since 1991.
The homes around the fairways hold some of the best rugs on our central loop, and their owners want a specialist rather than a carpet machine. Hand washing at our own facility is the standard we bring to them.
Royal Pines was built between 1988 and 1991 on the river side of Benowa, its triangular tower rising over a 27 hole course laid out by Japanese course architect Tomojiro Maruyama. The Australian Ladies Masters made the course its home from 1992 until the event's final editions, and the Australian PGA Championship has been played on the same fairways in recent years. Between tournaments it is simply Benowa's biggest landmark, ringed by the suburb's golf frontage streets.
Benowa's state school is older than the suburb's street grid, and it started with the neighbour's name.
School belt households run the hardest working rugs in the suburb, and the service is shaped around them: a form to book with, collection at the front door, and the rug back inside about a week.
The school opened on 21 September 1885 as Bundall Provisional School, serving the scattered farm families of the river district, and only later settled under Benowa's own name. In 1965 it moved to its present Benowa Road site as the suburb built up around it, and Benowa State High School followed on 29 January 1980, known since for the French immersion program that has run there for decades. Two schools, one street, and a name that sorted itself out along the way.

Benowa questions, answered plainly
Our rug has been down for twenty years. Is it too late to wash it?
Almost certainly not. Twenty years of settled dust dulls a wool rug without wearing it out, and the colour underneath is usually intact. What decides the answer is the foundation, not the surface, and that is what the inspection reads. If a rug genuinely has reached the end, you will hear it before any work starts.
What sets the price of a wash?
Size, fibre and condition. That is why no figure is quoted over the phone before somebody has looked at the rug properly. Once it is set it does not move, pickup and delivery are included on the central loop, and each rug beyond the first is $20 off.
Can a silk or viscose rug be washed safely?
Yes, so long as nothing is rushed. Dye stability is established before any water is used, the bath is run at the acidity that particular fibre wants, and the agitation is done by hand throughout. It is machinery rather than water that ruins fine rugs, and no machine touches one on our floor.
The cat urinated on our wool rug. Will the smell ever really go?
Yes, because the treatment goes where the urine went. It sinks past the pile into the backing, which is why sprays hold it down only between humid spells. Submerging the rug takes the residue out through the underside, and an enzyme step deals with what the wool retained. Any effect on the dye is reported at the assessment.
Do you collect from Bundall, Carrara and Broadbeach Waters as well?
Yes. One scheduled day covers the western side of the central Gold Coast loop, taking in Bundall, Carrara, Broadbeach Waters and the Isle of Capri, so neighbours or family nearby can share the same collection date and take the $20 off each extra rug.
How long will the rug be away?
Roughly a week door to door, and drying the foundation through is part of that window rather than an addition to it. Where a date has been set and cannot move, the 48 hour express runs at additional cost. Either way the rug is dry at the base, not just on top.
