The Goodna Jacaranda Festival has run since 1968, held toward the end of October when the suburb's old jacarandas put on their annual show. It fills Evan Marginson Park with stalls, rides and a parade, and is recorded as drawing more than 10,000 people. In a suburb planted generations deep with jacarandas, poincianas and hoop pines, the festival simply celebrates what these streets already do every year without being asked.

Goodna was proclaimed a village in 1856, and the essentials followed in quick succession: a post office in 1862, a church in 1863, the telegraph by late 1864, and a school on 1 February 1870 that had 175 pupils within four years. Long before there was a motorway, this was the natural halfway stop between Brisbane and Ipswich, and the suburb's earliest streets still carry that history in their houses.
The Brisbane to Ipswich railway began with a ceremony here in 1873.

On 30 January 1873, two thousand people gathered at Goodna to watch the turning of the first sod for the railway between Ipswich and Brisbane. When the line opened in stages through 1874 and 1875, Goodna was one of the original stations, and it has been a railway suburb ever since, with the platform still sitting a couple of hundred metres from the shopping centre.

Yes, so long as the treatment goes to the depth the urine reached, which is the foundation of the rug. Surface products never travel that far, and that is why the smell keeps returning on humid days. Immersion carries the residue out, an enzyme stage neutralises the rest, and thorough drying removes what would restart it.

Is an old rug from a long-held house worth washing?
Very often yes, and where it genuinely is not you will be told during the assessment rather than after the invoice. Rugs bought decades ago were usually made better than what would replace them now, and what makes them look finished is normally accumulated soil rather than worn-out fibre. Real wear is the one thing washing cannot undo.
