The figure comes first, then the journey
Nothing leaves your house before you have the number. The driver reads the rug where it lies, gives you one figure covering the wash and both trips, and it holds regardless of what the bath turns out to need. Where the rug is not worth that, we say so and it stays where it is.

Rug washing Yandina, at the corridor's own centre
The name is an instruction about the river
Yandina comes from the Kabi words yan dhinang, meaning to cross water by foot, and it refers directly to the first upstream ford over the Maroochy River. The whole town exists because of that crossing point. Gubbi Gubbi people occupied this country for more than 40,000 years before Daniel and Zachariah Skyring arrived with pastoral leases in the 1850s, and the town itself was surveyed in 1870 as the first township in the Maroochy district. All Saints' Anglican Church followed in 1880 and is the oldest church on the Sunshine Coast, and the Yandina Hotel opened in 1889. The locality covers 15.4 square kilometres nine kilometres north of Nambour, with Bridges, Ninderry, Cooloolabin, Maroochy River, Kulangoor and Parklands as neighbours.
The timber for one house here went down the river to a mill and came back by bullock wagon. Nobody thought that was an unreasonable amount of trouble to take over something worth keeping.
Heritage homesteads and working village housing, side by side
This is the Yandina and Eumundi corridor's central town rather than one of the acreage localities orbiting it, so the housing runs to a genuine mix. There are heritage homesteads, ordinary working village houses close to the centre, and newer building on the edges, and the population has climbed from 2,221 in 2011 to 2,371 in 2016 and 3,073 in 2021, which is acceleration rather than steady growth. The railway station still serves the North Coast line and the Bruce Highway bypass was completed in 1997, taking the through traffic out of the middle of town. Yandina State School opened as a provisional school in 1889 and became a state school in 1902. What comes out of these doors covers the full range, from inherited wool in an old house to a first rug in a new one, and each gets read on its own terms rather than by its address.
River flats hold damp longer than anyone expects
Sitting on the Maroochy River's own upstream ford, the same crossing that named the place, Yandina carries river-flat humidity right through the working village centre in the way its neighbours along this corridor do. Flat ground beside a river drains slowly and holds moisture in the soil for days after the surface looks dry, and the air above it follows suit. A rug in a house on that ground never gets a genuinely dry stretch to recover in, and the damage that does is slow, invisible and cumulative. It weakens fibre in the foundation, keeps any odour already present alive, and gives mould a start on the underside. Immersion lifts ground-in soil and trapped river humidity out of the base together, and the controlled drying room is what makes that improvement hold once the rug is back on the floor.

The trip a Yandina rug makes
You are not charged for the travelling and you do not wait around for it either. Yandina goes on the Nambour corridor run with North Arm and Ninderry, and the window is confirmed once the day's sequence is fixed.
A ford, a homestead built from travelled timber, and the district's first town
The corridor's working centre, named for the crossing that made it possible.
Yandina comes from the Kabi words yan dhinang, meaning to cross water by foot, referring directly to the first upstream ford over the Maroochy River, the crossing that gave the district its start.
A town named for the exact place people once crossed the water on foot is about as practical as naming gets, and practical is how we describe what a rug actually needs.
Gubbi Gubbi people occupied this country for more than 40,000 years before Daniel and Zachariah Skyring arrived with pastoral leases in the 1850s. The town was surveyed in 1870 as the first township in the Maroochy district, All Saints' Anglican Church followed in 1880 and remains the oldest church on the Sunshine Coast, and the Yandina Hotel opened in 1889.
Koongalba, meaning place of clean water, was built in 1894 for John Anthony Low, whose father James Low helped develop Yandina's early timber industry. The timber was floated down the Maroochy River to William Pettigrew's sawmill and returned by bullock wagon to build the house.
Sending something away to be worked on properly and bringing it back is the whole of our service, so a house built exactly that way is a story we were always going to tell.
Queensland Heritage-listed since 4 July 1995, the single-storeyed timber homestead still stands with its original four central rooms and wide verandahs. John and Louisa Low's nine children were all born there, which makes it a genuinely intact piece of this corridor's settlement history rather than a reconstruction of one.
Yandina's population went from 2,221 in 2011 to 2,371 in 2016 and 3,073 in 2021, genuine and accelerating growth for the corridor's central town.
A central town growing faster than the acreage around it produces heritage rugs and brand new ones on the same collection morning, and both are read the same way.
With Bridges, Ninderry, Kulangoor and Maroochy River all as direct neighbours, Yandina works as the hub the surrounding rural-residential localities orbit. Its railway station still serves the North Coast line, and the Bruce Highway bypass completed in 1997 took the through traffic out of the town centre while leaving the town itself intact.

Yandina questions, answered plainly
Ours is an old rug in an old house. Do you handle heritage pieces?
Regularly, and they are read more carefully than anything else. An older rug often has less stable dyes and a weaker foundation than a modern one, so the checks come before any water is involved. Where a piece should not be immersed we say so and offer the low moisture route instead rather than finding out the expensive way.
How do you price a rug from Yandina?
From the rug in front of us at the house. Construction, size and current condition settle one figure, both driver trips are already counted inside it, and nothing is added once the work starts. Where a piece is honestly not worth the cost, that is what you are told rather than a quote.
Does being on the river flats actually matter for a rug?
It does. Flat ground beside a river holds moisture for days after the surface looks dry, and the air over it does the same, so a rug here rarely gets a properly dry stretch. That damp lives in the foundation rather than on the face, which is why it goes unnoticed and why only a full bath deals with it.
The dog has urinated on the wool and it comes back every wet week. Why?
Because the deposit is in the backing and the wet week rewets it. Urine goes through the pile in seconds and sets underneath, out of range of anything sprayed on top, and river-flat damp here is enough to release the odour again and again. Only a bath gets down to that layer and takes the urine with it, enzymes clear the chemistry afterwards, and a controlled dry stops the whole thing recurring.
Do you collect at North Arm, Ninderry and Maroochy River too?
Yes, all three are on the same corridor morning, along with Bridges, Kulangoor and Nambour. Because the acreage localities around this town are spread out, it is worth sending everything together rather than one piece at a time. Every rug after the first has $20 off.
How long is the rug away for?
Usually 7 days, collection to delivery. Where that is too long there is a 48-hour express service carrying an additional charge. Ask about it during the first call rather than afterwards, because the whole corridor is covered on one scheduled day rather than on request.
