The Beenleigh railway line ran through this district from 1885, carrying sawn timber out of the hills, and Grahams timber siding opened here in 1913. When Queensland Railways opened a platform in early 1917 it took the name Woodridge, and the post office followed later that year. One account traces the name to a property owned by Octavius Stubbs; Queensland Places records that the name mimicked the topography, a ridge of high, timbered land. Either way, the ridge and its wood named the suburb.
Poultry farms and fruit blocks became one of Logan's biggest suburbs.
