Rug washing Rochedale South has been putting off
One of the biggest suburbs we collect from
Rochedale South covers 6.2 square kilometres about 21.7 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD, and 15,228 people lived here in the 2021 count, which makes it one of the most populous suburbs anywhere on this side of our map. It is recorded as the City of Logan's most northern residential suburb, pressed right up against the Brisbane boundary, and its name is a plain inheritance from the Rochedale homestead the Roche family built in 1868 over the line. Fifteen thousand residents in a settled suburb means a very large number of rugs, and a surprising share of them have never left the house they were bought for.
A rug does not need to look terrible to be filthy. It just needs to have been down long enough.
Brick, garden, and wool bought to last
This is Brisbane's classic seventies and eighties brick family belt in its Logan edition: low-set houses, carpeted bedrooms, tiled family rooms and gardens that have had four decades to mature. Good wool rugs were bought when those houses were new, and in plenty of cases they are still exactly where they were first laid. Established gardens are lovely and they are also dusty. Decades of leaf litter, lawn clippings and road film travel indoors on shoes and settle into pile. None of it looks like dirt on any particular Tuesday. It accumulates instead, evenly, until the rug is simply a duller version of itself and everybody has stopped noticing.
Humid Logan summers finish the job
Once a rug is carrying that much fine soil, the wet season does the rest. Humid air brings moisture into the pile, moisture and soil together start to smell, and a rug that has been quietly fine for years suddenly makes the room smell like a garage in February. Surface sprays are aimed at the wrong layer entirely, because the problem is packed against the foundation. A full bath on our Yatala floor rinses out four decades in one go, and the drying room takes every bit of moisture back out before the rug is returned. Getting there is the easy part: Rochedale South sits on the stretch of the M1 we drive more than any other.
There is one more reason we push hard on the drying here. Fifteen thousand residents means a lot of rugs on tiled family rooms with carpet either side, and carpet takes up any moisture a rug gives back. A piece returned even slightly damp passes that on to the carpet at its edges within a week. Ours goes back dry to the base, which is why nobody in these streets has had to ring us about a damp edge.

What happens to a Rochedale South rug
You never see that trip. Rochedale South sits on our most-driven motorway leg, collection and return are folded into the wash, and a collection window follows once the day's route is built.
A city boundary, a school with the wrong name, and a centre that changed its own
A suburb that built its own services rather than waiting for them.
Its own suburb since 1 August 1979, and the city's most northern.
Suburbs of long-held family homes are suburbs of long-serving rugs. Every piece gets an honest read, then a hand wash at Yatala just down the M1, and a dry return.
Rochedale South was split from Rochedale and officially named and bounded on 1 August 1979, and it is recorded as the City of Logan's most northern residential suburb, with Brisbane starting across the street. Before the estates, the Gill family ran a poultry farm and piggery here from 1952. Subdivision took off from 1967, and the brick streets filled through the seventies and eighties.
Springwood Road State School sits inside Rochedale South, and locals know it.
Two generations have now done their school runs across these floors. The $20 discount on every extra rug exists for houses like these, where there is rarely only one.
Springwood Road State School opened on 29 January 1974 and, despite the name on the gate, stands inside Rochedale South. The suburb got a school carrying its own name five years later, when Rochedale South State School opened on 30 January 1979, the same year the suburb was formally named. Two primary schools inside one suburb tells you exactly what kind of decade the seventies were here.
The 1970 centre has served the suburb under two names.
We work like a local errand too. Our driver lifts the rolled rug at the door on the M1 run, and it is back in around a week, dry right through.
The Strathlands shopping centre opened in 1970 while the estates were first filling, and was later renamed the Rochedale Shopping Village, which is how it trades today. It is still the suburb's local centre, the strip where fifteen thousand residents do the ordinary weekly rounds, and a marker of how early this corner of Logan grew its own services instead of waiting for them.

Rochedale South questions, answered straight
How much does rug cleaning in Rochedale South cost?
Size, fibre and condition decide the figure between them, so nothing is quoted until the rug has been read. The price is then fixed. Pickup and delivery come with the M1 run, and any rug genuinely past saving is flagged at that point rather than washed and invoiced.
Our rug has been down since 1985. Is it worth washing at this point?
In most cases yes, and the result is usually the surprise of the job. Wool from that era was well made, and what looks like wear is generally four decades of packed soil sitting at the base of the pile. The assessment reads the real condition first, brittle areas and old repairs included, so you know before you commit.
Can a rug be turned around inside a week?
Yes. 48-hour express handling is available, priced separately, when a house sale or a family occasion sets the date. The ordinary run is about 7 days, and the rug stays with us until it is dry to the foundation.
Years of dog accidents have left a smell in our wool rug. Can it be fixed?
Usually it can. Urine settles in the backing and keeps generating odour there, which is why cleaning the surface never holds. A full bath rinses that layer clear and enzymes finish the source off, then complete drying stops it returning on humid days. Any dye movement from old accidents is shown to you at assessment.
Do you also collect from Springwood, Underwood and Slacks Creek?
Yes, all three sit on the same run, along with Rochedale, Daisy Hill and Shailer Park. Neighbours often go on one collection day, and $20 off each extra rug makes it worth asking around the street before you book.
Two households in the street want rugs done. Does that work?
It works well, and it happens often here. One booking, one visit, two addresses a few doors apart is no trouble for the driver, and the discount on extra rugs counts across the whole collection rather than per house. Just give us both addresses when you call.
