Logan starts across the street

Rug washing Rochedale South has been putting off

One of the biggest suburbs we collect from

Rochedale South covers 6.2 square kilometres about 21.7 kilometres from the Brisbane CBD, and 15,228 people lived here in the 2021 count, which makes it one of the most populous suburbs anywhere on this side of our map. It is recorded as the City of Logan's most northern residential suburb, pressed right up against the Brisbane boundary, and its name is a plain inheritance from the Rochedale homestead the Roche family built in 1868 over the line. Fifteen thousand residents in a settled suburb means a very large number of rugs, and a surprising share of them have never left the house they were bought for.

A rug does not need to look terrible to be filthy. It just needs to have been down long enough.

Brick, garden, and wool bought to last

This is Brisbane's classic seventies and eighties brick family belt in its Logan edition: low-set houses, carpeted bedrooms, tiled family rooms and gardens that have had four decades to mature. Good wool rugs were bought when those houses were new, and in plenty of cases they are still exactly where they were first laid. Established gardens are lovely and they are also dusty. Decades of leaf litter, lawn clippings and road film travel indoors on shoes and settle into pile. None of it looks like dirt on any particular Tuesday. It accumulates instead, evenly, until the rug is simply a duller version of itself and everybody has stopped noticing.

Humid Logan summers finish the job

Once a rug is carrying that much fine soil, the wet season does the rest. Humid air brings moisture into the pile, moisture and soil together start to smell, and a rug that has been quietly fine for years suddenly makes the room smell like a garage in February. Surface sprays are aimed at the wrong layer entirely, because the problem is packed against the foundation. A full bath on our Yatala floor rinses out four decades in one go, and the drying room takes every bit of moisture back out before the rug is returned. Getting there is the easy part: Rochedale South sits on the stretch of the M1 we drive more than any other.

There is one more reason we push hard on the drying here. Fifteen thousand residents means a lot of rugs on tiled family rooms with carpet either side, and carpet takes up any moisture a rug gives back. A piece returned even slightly damp passes that on to the carpet at its edges within a week. Ours goes back dry to the base, which is why nobody in these streets has had to ring us about a damp edge.

Rug Cleaning Rochedale South

One visit covers the lot. Decades of dry soil are beaten out before anything is wet, the rug is bathed and hand worked at Yatala, and the pile is combed straight for the run back up the motorway.

The rugs here tend to be older than the renovation, and older than the current owners in a few cases. That is not a problem, it is an opportunity, because wool made in that era was made properly. Roughly seven days from from door to door, with the price agreed before the rug ever touches water.

  • Built for long-serving wool
  • Price agreed before any water
  • Groomed and dry on delivery

Rug Washing Rochedale South

The wool that has held this suburb's family rooms together since the estates filled goes right under the water, gets worked over by hand, and stays in the rinse until nothing more comes away from it.

Forty years of soil does not sit on top of a rug, it sits inside it, packed down against the foundation where vacuuming has never reached. The bath lifts the whole lot out at once. This is the job people photograph afterwards, because the pattern that comes back was invisible the week before.

  • Reaches four decades of soil
  • Rinsed until nothing more lifts
  • Pattern back, not just cleaner
Most popular

Stain Removal

Old marks with no story left, a coffee ring from a previous decade, garden mud from the back door. Read first, then treated according to what the fibre can take.

Aged stains behave differently to fresh ones. Some have oxidised into the fibre and will only lighten, others lift completely once the surrounding soil is gone. We test, treat carefully, and tell you which of those two you have rather than quietly hoping for the best.

  • Aged marks assessed separately
  • Tested on the fibre first
  • Told which will lift, which will lighten

Pet Stain and Odour

Two decades of dogs in the same house leaves its record in the same rug. Urine sinks down to the backing, and the smell keeps being made down there.

Old accidents that were mopped and forgotten are still there chemically, which is why the room smells worse on a humid morning. A full bath rinses that residue out of the backing, an enzyme step clears the last of it, and complete drying keeps it from waking next February.

  • Old accidents included
  • Flushed out, then neutralised
  • No revival on humid days

Odour Removal

That garage smell an old rug picks up over a Logan summer, or the closed-room note in a house where the windows stay shut through February.

Smell is material, not atmosphere. It comes from soil, moisture and residue held deep in the weave, so it responds to washing and ignores everything sprayed at it. The bath dissolves it, the rinse takes it away, and the drying stage strips out the damp that made it possible.

  • Treats material, not the air
  • Rinsed out of the weave
  • Damp removed with the odour

Rug Spot Cleaning

A fresh mark on a rug otherwise holding up well can usually be handled by itself, with no need to book the full bath.

On an older rug there is one honest caution: cleaning one patch of a rug that carries forty years of even soiling leaves a bright island. Where that would happen we say so, and the choice between living with the mark and washing the whole piece stays entirely yours.

  • Fresh marks handled alone
  • Bright-patch risk explained
  • The decision stays yours

Rug Steam Cleaning

Machine made pieces that do the hard yards get hot water extraction: the rug inside the back door, the hallway runner, the mat in the rumpus.

Every house here has one or two rugs that are tools rather than treasures, and extraction is the sensible, affordable answer for those. Anything hand knotted stays well away from it. The assessment sorts your rugs into the right categories and recommends accordingly.

  • Right for the working rugs
  • Affordable and quick
  • Hand knots kept clear of it

Rug Dry Cleaning

Pieces whose dyes have become unreliable with age, and foundations gone brittle enough to fail in a tub, are cleaned at low moisture instead.

A rug that has spent decades in the sun near a window can have weakened warp threads that water would finish off. The dye and strength tests tell us that before anything is committed. Cleaning then happens in sections with compounds, unhurried, with the rug fully supported.

  • For sun-weakened foundations
  • Strength tested, not assumed
  • Supported through every stage

Water Damage Restoration

A hot water system that has given up after twenty years, or storm water under the back sliding door. The next two days determine what happens to the rug.

An older wool rug soaked in a Logan summer starts growing mould quickly, and aged dyes can run once they are saturated. Call as soon as you can and let us know the timeline. The rug is read on arrival, and you get the answer before any cost is agreed.

  • Aged dyes run when soaked
  • Assessed on arrival, same day
  • Plain verdict before costs

Mould Rug Cleaning

The bloom on a rug that has been stored under the house or in the garage, and the musty stripe where a wall unit has stood since the eighties.

Mould in old wool has usually had a long run at it, so the smell arrives well before the marks do. Scrubbing dry mould just distributes the spores. The antimicrobial bath we use lifts out the growth and its moisture supply together, and finishing the drying prevents the repeat.

  • Long-standing cases handled
  • Antimicrobial bath and rinse
  • Dried through, so it stays away

Rug Moth Treatment

Moth grubs have had forty years of quiet in some of these houses, working under the sideboard and along the edges where nothing ever moves.

Old wool with a settled infestation can be thinning underneath while the visible surface still looks respectable. Treatment deals with the eggs as well as the grubs, and washing clears everything they have left in the weave. Whatever damage is done gets shown to you, with an honest view on repair.

  • Long infestations treated fully
  • Eggs, larvae and casings out
  • Honest view on repair

Stain Protection

Once the wash is done, a clear finish is applied so the next spill sits up for a moment rather than sinking into freshly cleaned wool.

It makes most sense right after a rug has come back looking like new, because that is when there is something worth protecting. The pile feels just as it did beforehand, but grandchildren and a cup of tea become a far less alarming combination.

  • Best applied straight after washing
  • Feel and colour untouched
  • Buys time on fresh wool

What happens to a Rochedale South rug

Collected here, washed at YatalaDecades overdue or not, it gets rolled up and delivered to Unit 9/38 Computer Rd, Yatala QLD 4207, where hands do the washing this time.
Just under twenty-five minutes downStraight down the motorway to the Yatala exit, about 22 kilometres with no turns to speak of.

You never see that trip. Rochedale South sits on our most-driven motorway leg, collection and return are folded into the wash, and a collection window follows once the day's route is built.

Three Rochedale South stories

A city boundary, a school with the wrong name, and a centre that changed its own

A suburb that built its own services rather than waiting for them.

Logan's northern doorstep

Its own suburb since 1 August 1979, and the city's most northern.

Suburbs of long-held family homes are suburbs of long-serving rugs. Every piece gets an honest read, then a hand wash at Yatala just down the M1, and a dry return.

The school with Springwood's name

Springwood Road State School sits inside Rochedale South, and locals know it.

Two generations have now done their school runs across these floors. The $20 discount on every extra rug exists for houses like these, where there is rarely only one.

Strathlands to the Shopping Village

The 1970 centre has served the suburb under two names.

We work like a local errand too. Our driver lifts the rolled rug at the door on the M1 run, and it is back in around a week, dry right through.

Fresh family room rug in Rochedale South
I had put the job off because the rug was awkward to move from Rochedale South. Vacuuming was not doing much for the dull colours in our machine-made rug. They talked through the wash and drying process before taking it away. The traffic areas are lighter, but it still looks like our rug.

Good to know

Rochedale South questions, answered straight

How much does rug cleaning in Rochedale South cost?

Size, fibre and condition decide the figure between them, so nothing is quoted until the rug has been read. The price is then fixed. Pickup and delivery come with the M1 run, and any rug genuinely past saving is flagged at that point rather than washed and invoiced.

Our rug has been down since 1985. Is it worth washing at this point?

In most cases yes, and the result is usually the surprise of the job. Wool from that era was well made, and what looks like wear is generally four decades of packed soil sitting at the base of the pile. The assessment reads the real condition first, brittle areas and old repairs included, so you know before you commit.

Can a rug be turned around inside a week?

Yes. 48-hour express handling is available, priced separately, when a house sale or a family occasion sets the date. The ordinary run is about 7 days, and the rug stays with us until it is dry to the foundation.

Years of dog accidents have left a smell in our wool rug. Can it be fixed?

Usually it can. Urine settles in the backing and keeps generating odour there, which is why cleaning the surface never holds. A full bath rinses that layer clear and enzymes finish the source off, then complete drying stops it returning on humid days. Any dye movement from old accidents is shown to you at assessment.

Do you also collect from Springwood, Underwood and Slacks Creek?

Yes, all three sit on the same run, along with Rochedale, Daisy Hill and Shailer Park. Neighbours often go on one collection day, and $20 off each extra rug makes it worth asking around the street before you book.

Two households in the street want rugs done. Does that work?

It works well, and it happens often here. One booking, one visit, two addresses a few doors apart is no trouble for the driver, and the discount on extra rugs counts across the whole collection rather than per house. Just give us both addresses when you call.
