An honest quote for the leafy hills
Nobody can price a rug from a phone description. Yours is read properly on the bench, quoted once, and the figure does not change afterwards.

Rug washing Shailer Park's shaded homes actually need
Hilly, leafy, and very close to our wash floor
Shailer Park covers 8.1 square kilometres about 29.1 kilometres south-south-east of the Brisbane CBD, with 12,182 residents at the 2021 census. It is hill country between the Pacific Motorway and the forested ridges to the north, and it is one of the quickest pickups on our whole list: about 13 kilometres and usually 12 to 15 minutes straight down the M1 to the Yatala off-ramp. Rugs collected here are often on the wash floor within the half hour. That is a genuinely useful thing when a rug is wet or badly soiled, because the sooner it reaches the bench the more of it we can save.
It is not dirt in the usual sense. It is bush matter and held moisture living at the base of the pile.
Split levels, big blocks, bush at the back fence
The hills gave Shailer Park a different character from the flat estates below it. Houses here are split-level and two-storey from the 1980s and 1990s, on generous leafy blocks, plenty of them with bush directly behind the back fence. Interiors run to timber and tile, and the rugs tend to be quality family pieces, bought once and expected to stay. What they carry is a bit different from the suburban average: leaf litter, bark dust, pollen, and a dog that has been treating the yard as a nature reserve since it was a pup. All of that is organic, all of it is very fine, and all of it works its way down through the pile to sit against the foundation.
Green means damp, and damp means the smell
The forested ridges are what keep this suburb green, and green comes at a price indoors. Shaded blocks hold morning moisture well into the day, houses under trees never get the drying sun that an open block does, and rugs in those rooms develop an earthy, cellar-like note that vacuuming does absolutely nothing about. That is because the smell is not on the surface, it is being generated at the base of the weave where organic material and retained moisture sit together. A full bath at the Yatala wash floor, ten minutes down the motorway, rinses both of them out at once, and the controlled drying stage means nothing damp goes back into a shaded room.
One habit is worth adopting on a bush block. Rugs near an open door collect far more organic matter than anything deeper in the house, so they benefit from a shorter washing cycle than the rest. Having the entry rug done twice as often as the lounge piece costs very little and keeps the whole house cleaner, because most of what ends up in the far rooms travelled there on somebody's feet.

The short trip a Shailer Park rug makes
You do not make that drive at all. Shailer Park sits on one of our quickest runs, the pickup and the return are part of the price, and a window comes through once the day is filled.
A centre on a slide park, a farming family, and a school out of order
A suburb that has always moved a bit faster than its neighbours.
Logan's big centre has traded on the old water-slide park site since 1989.
Half of Logan drives to Shailer Park already, so our driver simply comes the other way. Free pickup and delivery on a very short run, and the rug is back in about a week.
The Logan Hyperdome sits in Shailer Park at the motorway corner, built on the site of the former Wild Waters water slide park. Work commenced in September 1988 and the centre opened in 1989, growing through expansions in October 1997, December 1998, March 2005 and August 2015 into a centre of about 220 stores. The Logan Hyperdome Library joined it in 1998 and was refurbished in 2014. For most of Logan, the Hyperdome needs no further directions.
Francis and Catherine Shailer farmed here before the suburb had a name.
A suburb named for working farmers suits a business that still does the work by hand. An honest read of the rug first, then a proper wash at our facility a short drive away.
Francis Frederick Rising Shailer and his wife Catherine arrived with their children in 1866 and grew cotton and sugar on this ground. The family became known for what is credited as the first citrus orchard in southern Queensland, which stood in what is now neighbouring Slacks Creek. Francis taught school and became the first Clerk of the Tingalpa Divisional Board in 1880. The district carried the family name for a century before it was formally bounded in 1979 and made a suburb on 31 August 1991.
Shailer Park's high school opened two years before its primary school.
School-family homes are rug homes, and rarely one-rug homes. The $20 off every extra rug is there for exactly these households.
Shailer Park State High School opened on 29 January 1980, and the suburb's children attended it before Shailer Park State School existed. The primary school followed on 25 January 1982, and Kimberley Park State School completed the set on 29 January 1985. Building the high school first tells you how quickly these hills were filling with families, and all three schools now run special education programs.

Shailer Park questions about bushside rugs
How much does rug cleaning in Shailer Park cost?
Size, fibre and condition decide the price, so nothing is quoted before the rug has been read. From then the figure holds. Pickup and delivery come with the job on this run, and a rug not worth washing professionally is flagged before it is booked in.
Our rug smells earthy but does not look dirty. What is going on?
That is the classic bushside case. Leaf matter, bark dust and pollen settle at the base of the weave and hold moisture, and the two together generate the smell while the surface still looks fine. Vacuuming reaches none of it. A full immersion wash removes both the material and the moisture, and the smell goes with them.
How quickly can you collect from here?
Faster than most places we serve. Shailer Park is about 13 kilometres from the wash floor, usually 12 to 15 minutes down the M1, so it slots into runs easily. Rugs collected here are often on the bench within the half hour, which matters most when something is wet or has just been soiled.
Is there a faster turnaround than the standard week?
Yes. Express turnaround inside 48 hours is available at an additional charge when an event or a settlement is already set. Otherwise plan on about 7 days, and drying is not cut short for either.
The dog has urinated on our lounge room rug. Will the smell come back?
Not once the source is gone. Urine settles in the backing and keeps generating odour there, which is why sprays only quieten it. Putting the rug right under lifts that layer away and enzymes finish the source off, then thorough drying removes the moisture that would otherwise wake it on a damp morning.
Do you also collect from Loganholme, Cornubia and Daisy Hill?
Yes, and from Slacks Creek, Tanah Merah and Springwood on the same schedule. Neighbours can easily share a collection day, and a $20 discount on each extra rug makes a combined pickup worth arranging.
