One figure for the whole Kawana strip
Beach house, canal home or apartment, it is the rug that decides. What it measures, what it is made of and how it has been treated produce the figure on the spot, with both trips along the Nicklin Way already counted.

Rug washing Kawana Waters, from Wurtulla to Minyama
A name that is not officially a place
Kawana Waters is not officially a town nor a locality, and it is worth saying that plainly rather than writing around it. It is the name that a 1960s residential land scheme gave to a stretch of coast, and it stuck. The seven gazetted suburbs the name is popularly used to cover are Birtinya, Bokarina, Buddina, Minyama, Parrearra, Warana and Wurtulla, all connected by the Nicklin Way. Because every resident inside the strip is now counted within one of those seven suburbs, there is no current population figure for Kawana Waters itself, and we are not going to invent one. Historical collection-area counts do exist for the years from 1981 to 2011, when the area was measured as a single unit, and the last of those reached above twenty-two thousand people. That is history rather than a current figure, and we treat it as history.
The map says Buddina or Warana. Everyone here says Kawana. Knowing which is which is part of turning up at the right door.
One estate name, one school, seven addresses
Developer Alfred Grant proposed the name using Rex Ingamells' collection of Australian Aboriginal words, drawing on a term said to mean wildflowers, and persuaded the government to allot the individual suburb names along the coastline the estate covered. Decades later those individual names are the official addresses, while Kawana and Kawana Waters never left everyday use, on shopfronts, on street signage and on a school gate. Kawana Waters State College, at 119 Sportsman Parade physically inside Bokarina, opened in 1986 and teaches Prep to Year 12 across two campuses separated by a wetland corridor, drawing students from right along the strip regardless of which suburb sign is on their own street. For our purposes that is useful, because a customer will often give the school as the landmark rather than the street.
Water on three sides, and two different damp problems
The strip is bounded by the Mooloolah River to the north and northwest, the Coral Sea to the east and Currimundi Lake to the south, which is an unusually clean set of edges for a piece of coast this size. It also produces two separate problems for a rug. Open-ocean frontage along Wurtulla, Bokarina, Warana and Buddina brings salt and sand, which cut and hold moisture respectively. Canal and river frontage at Minyama, Parrearra and toward Birtinya brings still-water humidity, which does not move and does not dry. Most homes here get some of both. One bath takes the salt and the ground-in sand out of the wool together. The drying is finished flat and under control at Yatala, not over a canal-side railing in the air that created the problem.

We hold a service-area listing rather than a shopfront, which is why a van turns up at your address instead. Every rug is washed at Yatala.
The trip inland once the van is loaded
The drive is ours and it stays out of your quote. The Kawana loop takes in Caloundra and the whole strip in one day, and your window is confirmed once that day is set.
An estate name, one school and water on three sides
Three sourced facts about a name that outlived its own map.
Kawana Waters began as a 1960s land development name, drawn from an Aboriginal word said to mean wildflowers, and it stuck as the name locals use for the whole strip even after the government gave each suburb along it a name of its own.
A name this durable outlasting the official map is exactly the kind of local knowledge that tells us where a job actually is, whatever the paperwork says.
Developer Alfred Grant proposed the name using Rex Ingamells' collection of Aboriginal words, and persuaded the government to allot the individual suburb names, Buddina among them, along the coastline the estate covered. Decades on, those individual suburbs are the official addresses, but Kawana and Kawana Waters never left everyday use, on shopfronts, on school gates and on the strip's own shopping centre.
Kawana Waters State College, opened in 1986 at Bokarina, teaches Prep to Year 12 across two campuses separated by a wetland, drawing students from right along the strip.
A community that still organises around one shared school, decades after the map was redrawn, is exactly the settled local identity we plan our Kawana loop around.
The two campuses sit either side of an environmental wetland corridor, which makes the college a genuine piece of shared infrastructure for a stretch of coast built as one estate and later subdivided into separate suburbs. Families across Buddina, Warana, Bokarina and the rest send their students to the one school regardless of which suburb sign stands on their own street.
The strip is wrapped in water: the Mooloolah River to the north and west, the open Coral Sea to the east, and Currimundi Lake closing it off to the south.
Water on three sides means salt, sand and still-water humidity are never far from any home here, and that combination is precisely what a full immersion wash is built to strip out.
Few stretches of coast this size are bounded so cleanly on three sides, and it shapes the housing directly. There are canal frontages at Minyama and Buddina, beachfront along Wurtulla and Bokarina, and river-mouth apartments toward Birtinya, and each of those brings its own version of a damp problem to the rugs inside.

Kawana Waters questions, answered plainly
Is Kawana Waters actually a suburb?
Not officially, and we would rather say so. It is not a gazetted town or locality. It is the name a 1960s land development gave to this stretch of coast, and it has outlasted the official naming of the seven suburbs along it. Give us the street and the suburb on your mail and the driver will find you.
Which suburbs do you mean when you say Kawana Waters?
Birtinya, Bokarina, Buddina, Minyama, Parrearra, Warana and Wurtulla, all strung along the Nicklin Way between the Mooloolah River and Currimundi Lake. Every one of them is on the same loop, so it makes no difference to the service which of the seven you are in.
How is the price worked out?
By looking at the rug. Its size, its fibre and the state it turns up in produce a figure at inspection, both trips are already counted in it, and nothing is added afterwards. If a piece will not repay the work, we say so before it goes in the van.
The dog urinated on the rug and the salt air seems to make the smell worse. Is that real?
It is. Salt holds moisture against the fibre, and moisture reactivates the urine residue still sitting in the foundation, which is why surface treatments fail faster here than inland. Immersion carries water down to that layer, the enzyme stage strips out whatever the smell had been living on, and the controlled dry is the part that keeps it gone.
Do you also collect from Buddina, Warana and Minyama?
Yes, and from Wurtulla, Bokarina, Birtinya and Parrearra on the same loop, along with Currimundi and Caloundra. Sending several rugs on one pickup is easy along a strip this compact, and every rug after the first is $20 off.
How long will the rug be away from the house?
Around seven days in the normal course of things. Fixed dates can usually be handled by the 48 hour express service, which costs extra. The drying is never trimmed back for either, and on a strip carrying salt and still-water damp together, that stage is what makes the result last.
