A careful figure for a well-travelled rug

Bongaree measures a business by whether it appears on the day it promised, and that is a fair test. Our island run is scheduled, your window is confirmed before the day, and the driver arrives inside it. The rug leaves rolled, gets hand washed at Yatala, and comes back dry on the run we told you about.

Rug Cleaning Bongaree Keeps Its Old Rugs For

The island's original town keeps its originals

Bongaree holds the southern tip of Bribie Island, looking back across the Pumicestone Passage at the mainland. It is the island's original town, surveyed when land first went on sale in 1912, and it still carries the island's first streets, its museum and its civic life. The housing runs the island's deepest mix: original fibro holiday shacks, brick low-sets and walk-up units from the 1960s to the 1980s along the esplanade streets, and modern retirement villages behind them. Many residents have been here thirty or forty years, and their rugs came with them: wool, Persian and the occasional inherited piece, all living a hundred metres from salt water. Premier Rug Cleaning is built for exactly that clientele.

The island's mild winters never get dry enough to reverse it.

Salt from two sides, and the drying that answers it

The southern tip takes sea air from two directions, passage on one side and the open bar on the other, so salt works into rug pile all year and holds moisture there, flattening wool and muting colour. A full immersion wash at Yatala flushes the salt and grit out of the fibre, and complete drying in our rooms does what no on-site clean in island air can honestly manage.

A town that keeps its stories deserves rugs that keep theirs

The town is named for Bungaree, the Garigal man from Broken Bay who came north with Matthew Flinders in 1799 as guide and go-between, and it grew from the 1912 land sale onward, when the steamer Koopa began landing Brisbane day-trippers by the hundred. The Seaside Museum on South Esplanade keeps all of it, from the man himself to the passage's dugongs, and that instinct for preservation is the local temperament. It is ours too. Rugs with four decades of family history get hand washing, patient drying and honest advice about what each piece can still give. The island run collects and returns door to door at no charge, with your window confirmed once the day's schedule is set.

Rug Cleaning Bongaree

Cleaning for the island's most established rugs, some older than the streets they lie in.

The scheduled run collects rolled rugs door to door across the town. Every piece is assessed on arrival at Yatala and washed to suit its age, not the clock.

  • Age-appropriate handling
  • Door-to-door island run
  • Assessed piece by piece

Rug Washing Bongaree

Decades of two-sided salt air ask for the full treatment: immersion, hands and time.

The bath dissolves the accumulated salt, gentle agitation frees the grit, and the rinse carries the lot away. Our drying rooms finish a job island air cannot.

  • Decades of salt shifted
  • Gentle on old fibre
  • Drying rooms, not sea air
Most popular

Stain Removal

Forty years of morning teas leave a record in any front-room rug.

Old marks are tested before they are treated, because aged dyes need respect. What can lift, lifts. What cannot is explained honestly with the rug in front of us.

  • Aged dyes respected
  • Tested before treated
  • Honesty over promises

Pet Stain and Odour

The little dog rules the unit, and the rug pays the tax.

Accidents settle beneath the pile where sprays cannot follow. Immersion dissolves the source out of the backing and returns the rug smelling of nothing at all.

  • Source-level removal
  • No perfume disguise
  • Safe for fine old wool

Odour Removal

A rug can smell like the nineteen-eighties without anyone agreeing to that.

Years of held moisture and dust build a signature the nose stops noticing and visitors do not. The full wash removes it and the drying room keeps it gone.

  • Years of build-up out
  • Guests notice the change
  • Kept gone by real drying

Rug Spot Cleaning

A single spill on a good rug calls for a measured response.

We treat the affected area alone when the rest is sound, keeping cost and turnaround small. Full-wash advice is given straight when the piece truly needs it.

  • Measured, not maximal
  • Quick return to the floor
  • Straight advice always

Rug Steam Cleaning

The hardy synthetic by the sliding door takes steam without complaint.

Steam extraction suits tough modern fibres. Assessment keeps it away from the wool and the inherited pieces, which always get the gentler bath.

  • For tough modern fibres
  • Kept off the heirlooms
  • Chosen at assessment

Rug Dry Cleaning

Fragile antiques and moisture-shy weaves get the no-bath alternative.

Some elderly rugs cannot swim safely. We flag them before water enters the picture and clean them gently by the dry route, keeping structure, colour and character.

  • Antiques identified first
  • No-bath alternative
  • Character preserved

Water Damage Restoration

A stuck window in a passage squall can soak a front-room rug fast.

Ring promptly and the sequence works: collect, dry before mould thinks about it, wash properly afterwards. Old rugs survive this more often than owners expect.

  • Prompt response
  • Mould pre-empted
  • Old rugs usually saved

Mould Rug Cleaning

Island humidity finds any rug stored flat in a cupboard for a season.

Early mould washes out fully. Established mould earns the rug a frank survey first, so the decision to spend is made with clear eyes.

  • Early growth removed
  • Frank survey if advanced
  • Clear-eyed decisions

Rug Moth Treatment

Moths love a rolled rug waiting quietly for the grandchildren's visit to end.

One immersion clears eggs, larvae and every trace between. You see exactly what we found, and the storage advice that follows stops the cycle restarting.

  • Cleared in one pass
  • Shown as found
  • Cycle broken for good

Stain Protection

After a proper wash, protection is a small step that defends a big history.

The finish bonds to clean fibre and slows the next accident from becoming permanent. On rugs this old, buying time is the whole point.

  • Defends washed fibre
  • Slows accidents down
  • Time bought for heirlooms

History at the water's edge

Three keepers of the Bongaree story

The man the town is named for, the museum that remembers everything and the lagoon the birds kept.

The Bongaree naming and 1912 settlement story

A town named for the Garigal man who sailed with Flinders.

A town that keeps a 1799 story alive understands looking after what came before. That is most of our trade: rugs with history, washed by hand at Yatala so the history stays in the family.

Bribie Island Seaside Museum

The island's museum on South Esplanade, from Flinders' cat to dugongs.

Museums preserve their collections by controlling moisture, handling and cleaning. Rug care is the same discipline applied at home, and 29 years of hand washing is how we practise it.

Buckleys Hole Conservation Park

The bird lagoon at the island's southern point.

The birds get the flats, and the rugs get the sand that walks home in every beach towel and dog coat. Immersion washing releases it from the base of the pile, where no vacuum reaches.

Good to know

Questions from the original town

Has an old rug ever been too far gone to wash?

Occasionally, yes. Rot in the foundation or dyes that will not hold can make washing the wrong call, and when that is the verdict we give it to you straight at the door instead of taking the job and hoping. Most old rugs, though, come through beautifully.

What is different about washing rugs from island homes?

The salt load. Island rugs carry dissolved salt right through the pile, which holds moisture and dulls the piece from the inside. They need full immersion to flush it and genuine drying rooms to finish, which is precisely what the Yatala facility provides.

Do you charge more to come across to the island?

No. The scheduled run makes the island trip workable, so pickup and delivery stay free for Bongaree. The only figure you pay is the wash price agreed at your door.

Why does the rug have to travel to Yatala instead of being cleaned here?

Because the equipment cannot come to you. Immersion tanks, rinse floors and drying rooms do not fit in a van, and in island air a rug cleaned on-site never dries right through. The trip down and back is what makes the result honest.

Does the same island visit cover Bellara, Banksia Beach and Woorim?

Yes. The Bribie run works the whole island in one scheduled day, from the point at Bongaree through Bellara and Banksia Beach and across to Woorim. Neighbours and family often book onto the same day, each rug gets its own assessment and quote, and the $20 discount applies to each extra rug collected together from one address.

Thirty years of dogs have napped on our wool rug. Is the smell now part of it?

No. Odour lives in residue, and residue dissolves. Urine and pet oils sink into the rug's foundation, past anywhere surface cleaning can reach, which is why the smell has outlasted every product tried on it. Full immersion at Yatala removes the source itself. Where old accidents have shifted the dye, the assessment shows you honestly before anything is booked.
