Rug specialists, not carpet cleaners

Viscose is the fibre most likely to be wrecked by a well-meaning clean

Viscose has the silky sheen of real silk at a fraction of the price, which is why so many Brisbane homeowners own one without realising how fragile it is. It is essentially processed cellulose, closer to paper than wool, so a single splash of plain water can leave a yellow or brown mark the moment it gets wet, the colour shifting in front of you. Then it gets worse: you ring around and cleaner after cleaner says they will not touch viscose, leaving you afraid the rug is already a write-off. It usually is not. The trouble is never that viscose cannot be cleaned, only that it must be cleaned with the right method, the right chemistry and fast, controlled drying, by someone who recognises the fibre on sight.

The risk

A carpet cleaner with a van can ruin a fine rug

One-size-fits-all carpet machines are the number one cause of rug damage. Here is exactly what goes wrong.

The yellow-brown water mark (cellulosic browning)When viscose stays wet too long and dries slowly, the cellulose oxidises and a plain water spill turns into a yellow or brown mark. This is cellulosic browning, the exact symptom owners panic over, and over-wetting is what triggers it.
Ruined sheen from steam and scrubbingHigh-pressure steam, beater bars and hard agitation flatten the silky pile and leave the surface stiff and crunchy, like cardboard. Wet viscose loses much of its strength, so scrubbing snaps fibres and the sheen that made the rug worth buying never comes back.
Colour bleed across the designSoak an unidentified viscose rug and the dyes can migrate, so a dark spill or a saturated patch bleeds into the lighter areas around it. What began as one small mark spreads into a halo that is far harder to correct than the original spill.
DIY-set marks and lingering pet odourA quick home spray, a pin, a brush, or a urine accident left to dry sets the stain and the smell into the cellulose. By the time it reaches us the damage is baked in, and in Brisbane humidity a half-treated pet accident keeps coming back smelling.

“I made the red wine spill on the viscose rug worse by rubbing it with a towel. The stain sits back into the pattern now instead of standing out. The rug now feels worth keeping in the room.”

Real wash, our facility
The Premier difference

Specialist care, not a quick spray

Your rug is collected and brought to our dedicated washing facility, where it is hand-assessed and cleaned by fibre, then dried under control. A deep, safe clean that protects the rug you love, backed by 29 years and a 7-day free re-wash guarantee.

Why Premier

Built to protect your rug

We accept viscose when most cleaners refuse it

Where others turn viscose, rayon and art silk away, we take it on. In 29 years of washing rugs only, never carpets, our IICRC-certified technicians have mastered the fibre, so you finally have somewhere to send the rug nobody else would touch.

A controlled low-moisture hand-wash, never a van steam

Your rug is hand-washed by immersion at our dedicated Yatala facility using a controlled, low-moisture process and gentle, fibre-matched chemistry, the opposite of an uncontrolled home soak or a steam wand run over it in your loungeroom.

Fast, controlled drying that stops the browning

Because over-wetting and slow drying are what cause the yellow-brown mark, we manage temperature and airflow to wick moisture away fast and even, so the cellulose dries before it can oxidise and brown.

Insured handling and an honest assessment first

We inspect and dye-test the fibre, then give you a straight answer on what can and cannot lift before we start. Your rug is fully insured in our care, and we clean with non-toxic products that are safe for pets and children.

Good to know

Common questions

Can a viscose rug be washed, or will water ruin it?

It can be washed, but only the right way. Viscose loses much of its strength when wet and browns easily, so an uncontrolled soak, a scrub or a steam clean can ruin it, which is why many cleaners refuse it outright. We accept it and use a controlled low-moisture hand-wash with anti-browning chemistry and fast, managed drying, getting a result a DIY attempt or a generic carpet clean cannot.

Why is viscose so hard to clean, and why should I never steam it?

Viscose is processed cellulose, closer to paper than wool, so heat, high moisture and agitation make it swell, brown and lose its sheen. Steam cleaning in the usual sense is one of the worst things you can do to it. We identify the fibre first, then hand-wash by immersion under controlled low moisture with rapid, even drying, never a beater bar. When we use steam it is adjustable, controlled-temperature water, not a hot blast.

There is already a yellow or brown mark after water got on it. Can you fix it?

That mark is cellulosic browning, where the cellulose has oxidised, and it is exactly what we treat. The sooner we see it the better the result, so stop adding any moisture, blot gently, never rub, and call us on 1800 655 949. We assess it first and tell you honestly how much is likely to lift before we begin.

Is it worth paying to clean it, or should I just replace it?

That depends on the rug and the damage, which is why we assess before you commit and quote by size, fibre and condition rather than a flat figure. Many viscose rugs respond well and regain much of their sheen. If a stain or browning cannot be fully removed we tell you straight and explain options like colour restoration, so you make a clear decision instead of throwing good money after bad.

How long will a viscose rug last, and how do I keep it looking right?

Viscose is a delicate, lower-durability fibre, so it will not outlast wool, and in high-traffic lanes the pile darkens and dulls with use. It lasts far longer when kept out of constant foot traffic, blotted rather than scrubbed when spills happen, and cleaned by a specialist rather than soaked at home. Unsure whether yours is viscose? It often has a bright, silky sheen, feels cool and soft, and may be labelled rayon, art silk, bamboo silk or banana silk. Do not test it with water; blot gently and call 1800 655 949, and we confirm the fibre when we collect it.

Get your viscose rug assessed and collected before the damage sets

The sooner a viscose rug is in the right hands, the better the result, especially with water marks or pet accidents. We accept the viscose others refuse, with free pickup, delivery and an honest quote across SE QLD and Northern NSW, all backed by a 7-day free re-wash guarantee. Standard turnaround is about 7 days, or 48-hour service on request. Stop adding water, blot don't rub, and call 1800 655 949 today to book. Bringing more than one rug?
