Common questions
Can synthetic rugs be cleaned?
Yes, and they usually come up better than people expect. Polypropylene, polyester, nylon and olefin all respond well to a full-immersion wash that flushes out the trapped odour, grit and oily soil a home spray leaves behind. Synthetics are one of the more forgiving rug types, so restoring a tired one is far cheaper than replacing it. If yours genuinely is not worth cleaning, we will tell you honestly. Call 1800 655 949.
Can you professionally clean a polyester rug?
Yes, polyester and polypropylene are exactly the fibres we wash every week. We hand-wash by full immersion at our Yatala facility, rinsing the whole rug rather than wiping the surface, then dry it under controlled conditions right through the backing. That is what lifts ground-in traffic soil and removes the smell for good, instead of a quick top clean that looks fine until it dries and the musty odour returns.
Can you steam clean a synthetic rug?
We do not steam clean, and there is a good reason. Steam and surface machines only touch the top of the pile and leave water sitting in the latex backing, which is exactly what causes the musty, wet-dog smell afterwards. Our controlled full-immersion wash, followed by proper controlled drying, cleans a synthetic rug right through, so it comes back genuinely fresh and dry rather than damp.
Can you machine wash a 100% polyester rug?
Please do not put it through a domestic machine. The drum agitation can distort the backing, fray the edges and set creases you cannot undo, and the rug rarely dries through, so it ends up smelling worse.
