Common questions
Can synthetic rugs be cleaned, and will mine come back smelling musty or like a wet dog?
Yes, synthetic rugs clean up beautifully, and avoiding the musty, wet-dog result is exactly what our process is built for. Polypropylene, polyester, nylon and olefin are all safely washed. After immersion hand-washing, your rug is control-dried fully, front, back and right through the latex backing, at our facility rather than left damp in a van. Drying through the backing is what stops the smell, and our free re-wash guarantee covers you if odour ever returns.
Should I send my rug to a factory cleaner or have it done at home?
For synthetics, sending it away wins. On-site cleaning only reaches the surface, so trapped grit, sand and pet odour stay in the lower layers and backing. At our Yatala plant we fully immerse the rug, flush the soil right out, then control-dry it properly off your floor. That deeper rinse and controlled dry are the two things an in-home or in-van clean simply cannot give you, and pickup and delivery are free.
Can you professionally clean a polyester or polypropylene rug, and can it be steam cleaned?
Yes. We professionally clean polyester, polypropylene, nylon, olefin, acrylic and shag synthetics. Rather than steam cleaning on your floor, which only reaches the top, we full-immersion hand-wash the rug at our facility so soil, sand and odour are flushed out of the whole rug. That deeper wash, plus controlled drying afterwards, is what a quick steam or spray on site cannot match.
Can you machine wash a 100% polyester rug at home?
We do not recommend it. A home washing machine can agitate the pile out of shape, stress the seams and backing, and it cannot rinse or dry a rug thoroughly, which is what leaves that damp, musty smell behind. Our immersion hand-wash is gentler and far deeper: the rug is washed flat, fully rinsed and control-dried through the backing, so it comes back fresh and holds its shape.
Is it worth paying to clean a cheap synthetic rug instead of hosing it or replacing it?
A backyard hose or hire machine is usually what causes the smell-back, because the backing soaks up water that never dries at home. Those machines are poor value for what they remove. Our wash lifts ground-in oily soil, traffic grit and pet odour, and brings the soft feel back to flattened pile. Synthetics are our most affordable rug type to wash, so cleaning is almost always cheaper than replacing, and if a rug genuinely is not worth it we will tell you honestly.
