Common questions
Can synthetic rugs actually be cleaned, or is mine a write-off?
Yes, synthetic rugs clean up very well and are our most affordable rug type to wash. Polypropylene, polyester, nylon, olefin and shag all respond to a full immersion wash that flushes out trapped odour and gritty soil rather than just wetting the surface, then proper drying so the rug comes back fresh and soft. We give you a free, honest quote first, so if a rug genuinely is not worth saving we tell you before you spend a cent.
Can you professionally clean a polyester or polypropylene rug?
Yes, we wash polyester, polypropylene, nylon and olefin rugs every day at our Yatala plant. These fibres hold odour and oily traffic soil deep in the pile and backing, which is exactly what a full immersion wash is built to remove. We identify the fibre, immersion wash the rug right through, and dry it fully under control so the musty smell and grey lanes do not come straight back the way they do after a quick surface clean.
Can you steam clean a synthetic rug, or is that enough?
We do not steam clean, and for good reason. Steam and hire machines only spray and extract from the surface, leaving the backing wet without rinsing out the odour or the oily soil olefin grips, so the smell and traffic lanes usually return. Our facility immersion wash rinses the rug right through and then dries it properly, which a portable steam or hire machine on your floor simply cannot do.
Can you machine wash a 100% polyester rug at home?
We do not recommend it. A home machine cannot rinse a rug through evenly or dry the backing, so you risk a still-damp, musty rug, a warped or split latex backing, and damage to your washer from the weight. Our process is a controlled hand wash by full immersion, not a tumble in a domestic drum, which gets the rug genuinely clean and fully dry without the gamble.
My rug reeks of pet urine and a previous clean only masked it. Can you really get it out?
Yes, and we will be honest about it. A surface or DIY clean cannot reach urine set into a latex backing, which is why the smell returns when the rug warms up. Our full immersion process and pet-safe treatment work through the rug, not over it, and the controlled drying afterwards is what stops the odour coming back.
