From your front door to our Yatala facility and safely back again. This is the real process, not a quick spray.
Why ordinary rug cleaning is the fastest way to ruin a silk rug
First everyone says no. You ring around, and one cleaner after another refuses genuine silk because it is too high-risk to touch, so a rug that needs care just sits there. Then the one who says yes treats it like any carpet. Hot-water steam extraction made for carpet is a silk killer: that heat and full saturation weaken wet silk, loosen knots and let natural reds run into ivory fields, permanently. It comes back stiff, dull and stripped of the soft sheen you bought it for, or simply surface-freshened and never properly clean.
A carpet cleaner with a van can ruin a fine rug
One-size-fits-all carpet machines are the number one cause of rug damage. Here is exactly what goes wrong.

Specialist care, not a quick spray
Your rug is collected and brought to our dedicated washing facility, where it is hand-assessed and cleaned by fibre, then dried under control. A deep, safe clean that protects the rug you love, backed by 29 years and a 7-day free re-wash guarantee.
Built to protect your rug
We clean genuine 100% silk, art silk and viscose rugs of any age, the exact pieces carpet cleaners turn away. Rugs are the only thing we have done for 29 years, and your rug is handled like one with history, not just another job.
Your silk is hand-washed by full immersion at our dedicated Yatala facility, with no hot water, no steam and no beater bars, never hosed in a machine or cleaned in a van. This is the thorough wash a carpet steamer simply cannot give.
A free inspection tells you honestly whether it is real silk or viscose and checks every dye for movement first. You get a clear price up front, and we find any colour risk before water touches the rug rather than after.
We log your rug at pickup with chain of custody, keep it covered and fully insured throughout, and return your exact rug backed by a 7-day free re-wash. Non-toxic, pet and child safe products throughout.
7 careful stages, all 15 steps
No shortcuts and no guessing. Your rug moves through the same specialist system every time, from your front door and safely back again.

Common questions
What is the best way to clean a silk rug?
Not at home, and never with heat. The safest method is a controlled hand-wash by full immersion using cool water, gentle fibre-correct products and careful, controlled drying so the knots and lustre are protected. We dye-test every colour first, then wash by hand at our Yatala facility. Vacuums, steam machines and spot cleaners all risk the very damage you are trying to avoid, which is exactly why silk belongs with a specialist.
Can you steam clean a silk rug?
No, and you should not let anyone try. Steam and hot-water extraction run far hotter than delicate silk can safely take, so the heat weakens wet fibres, dulls the sheen and can set dyes running. That carpet-cleaning process is what ruins silk rugs. We never steam silk. Instead we hand-wash it cool, by immersion, with no aggressive heat and no beater bars, which is the difference between rug washing and carpet cleaning.
Can silk rugs be vacuumed?
Only with great care, and never with a beater bar or rotating brush, which catches and pulls the fine knots loose over time. Gentle suction on a low setting is the most a silk rug should see at home. For anything beyond surface dust, a proper hand-wash lifts the ground-in grit that vacuuming can never reach. When you book with us we handle the deep clean and return the rug ready for gentle care.
I tried to hand wash it myself and made it worse. Can you fix it?
Often, yes, and you are not the first. Water, vinegar, generic spot cleaners or any rubbing can set a stain, dull the sheen or leave a watermark on silk, and on viscose art silk plain water alone can mark it. We inspect the rug and tell you honestly the likely result before we start, then treat it with a controlled hand-wash. Old or set stains can be stubborn, so we are upfront rather than promising a miracle.
What does silk rug cleaning cost, and is it worth it?
We quote each rug individually because price depends on size, fibre and condition, so you get a clear price up front after a free inspection with no surprise surcharges. If a rug is not worth cleaning, we tell you honestly. Most silk rugs are worth far more than the wash, and you save $20 on every additional rug in the same booking, so two rugs save you $20 and three save you $40.
