Can you steam clean a silk rug?
No, and we never will. Steam and hot-water extraction can shrink silk, dull its lustre and weaken the wet fibres, which is exactly what a carpet machine does. Silk needs cool, controlled water and a gentle hand-wash instead. Can silk rugs be vacuumed?
Gently, yes. Light vacuuming with no beater bar and reduced suction lifts loose surface dust safely between professional cleans. Can I hand wash a silk rug myself?
We understand the temptation, but it is risky. Without a fastness test the dyes can bleed, uncontrolled water can watermark the silk, and improper drying can leave it stiff or shrunken.
