From your front door to our Yatala facility and safely back again. This is the real process, not a quick spray.
Why the musty smell keeps coming back after a normal clean
You have probably already tried the 50/50 hot water and vinegar, the baking soda, a mould spray from the hardware shop, a day in the sun, maybe even a surface steam clean. The smell lifted for a week, then settled straight back in. That is because all of that only touches the top of the pile. The mould you can smell is rooted in the backing, where the spores and trapped moisture survive deep in the foundation. Most rug mould starts as a hidden water event, a leak under a door, rain, a humid spell, or a rug stored away damp, and a surface pass never reaches the source. Worse, a truck-mounted steam unit can push moisture deeper, and any rug left even slightly damp the next day will mould all over again.
A carpet cleaner with a van can ruin a fine rug
One-size-fits-all carpet machines are the number one cause of rug damage. Here is exactly what goes wrong.
Don't risk a one-size-fits-all clean on a rug you love
Get my free quote“I wanted a practical clean and clear advice. Our wool rug had been against a damp wall and started smelling musty. They collected it from Pottsville and explained the mould cleaning process clearly. A couple of faint marks remain, but the rug feels much healthier.”Emerson Li · Pottsville · customer review
Specialist care, not a quick spray
Your rug is collected and brought to our dedicated washing facility, where it is hand-assessed and cleaned by fibre, then dried under control. A deep, safe clean that protects the rug you love, backed by 29 years and a free re-wash guarantee.
Built to protect your rug
A mouldy rug is too bulky and too fragile to wrestle into the car, and you do not want it in there anyway. We collect from your Northern NSW door and take it out of your house today, with no surcharge for the distance.
Submersion flushes the spores and the smell out of the foundation rather than skimming the surface. That is the real reason the musty odour came back last time, and exactly what immersion fixes.
Recurring mould and that damp smell are almost always a drying failure. We dry your rug completely under controlled conditions and return it ready to lay straight back down, not damp, the single thing our customers credit most.
We tell you straight whether the rug can be saved before we start. Certified technicians have handled mould-affected wool, silk and antique rugs for nearly three decades, fully insured, with a free re-wash guarantee.

Common questions
Can a mouldy rug be saved, or is it already ruined?
Often yes, and the only honest way to know is an inspection. If mould has rotted the foundation so the rug is stiff and cracking, we will tell you straight rather than take your money. If it is recoverable, we say so. After 29 years we know which mouldy rugs come back beautifully and which do not, and we would rather give you the truth up front than overpromise. We can usually give you a likely answer over the phone before we even collect it.
What actually kills mould in rugs, and will the musty smell really go?
Vinegar, bleach and hardware-shop sprays kill some surface mould but leave the roots and trapped moisture alive in the backing, so it regrows and the smell returns within weeks. We fully immerse and hand-wash the rug at our Yatala facility to flush the spores out of the foundation, then dry it completely under controlled conditions so there is no leftover moisture for mould to feed on. That gets the musty, damp smell out for good rather than masking it.
Is rug mould dangerous to my family, kids and pets?
A mouldy rug keeps releasing spores into the room, which is a real concern for asthma, allergies, babies on the floor and anyone immune-compromised. Worried it is the dangerous black kind? We safely treat and contain the mould off-site at our facility, so the spores leave your home rather than spread through it. The non-toxic products we use are safe to have back around your kids and pets once the rug is home.
How common is mould under a rug, and what causes it?
Very common in South East QLD and Northern NSW, where humidity, storms and flooding do the work. Mould is almost always a symptom of a hidden water event, a leak under a door, rain blowing in, a damp slab, or a rug rolled up and stored too long. That is why a surface clean never holds; until the moisture in the backing is flushed and the rug is dried right through, it simply comes back.

You do not have to wrestle a heavy, fragile mouldy rug into your car. Standard turnaround is about 7 days door to door, with a 48-hour option on request if you need it back fast, which may carry a surcharge.
