Why moth damage in Northern NSW rugs is so easy to miss until it is serious
Moths feed out of sight, so the damage is usually found too late. They thrive in the warm, humid coastal conditions across Northern NSW and target the spots you never look: under furniture legs and sofas, along the fringes and skirting edges, and on the underside and foundation of the rug. By the time you see a hole or a worn patch where the jute backing shows through, the larvae have often been eating the fibres from below for months. People try everything first, fly spray, vacuuming, moving all the furniture out, mothballs and permethrin, and still the bald patches keep spreading, because the eggs you cannot see survive in the deep pile.
A carpet cleaner with a van can ruin a fine rug
One-size-fits-all carpet machines are the number one cause of rug damage. Here is exactly what goes wrong.
Don't risk a one-size-fits-all clean on a rug you love

Specialist care, not a quick spray
Your rug is collected and brought to our dedicated washing facility, where it is hand-assessed and cleaned by fibre, then dried under control. A deep, safe clean that protects the rug you love, backed by 29 years and a free re-wash guarantee.
Built to protect your rug
We fully submerge and hand-wash your rug at our Yatala facility, lifting the eggs, larvae and the dirt that attracts moths out of the foundation and fringes, exactly where a carpet steam, a van spray, mothballs and DIY sprays all stay on top of the pile and miss where moths actually breed.
Our IICRC-certified technicians inspect the rug and tell you plainly what they see, what can be saved and what cannot, after 29 years doing only rugs. Older moth-eaten spots may remain, and we say so up front, but the rug comes back fresh, clean and safe to use.
Our products are non-toxic and safe for pets and children, so cat owners and parents with little ones crawling on the floor do not have to worry about insecticide residue once the rug comes home fresh and fully dry.
We collect and return your rug for free across Northern NSW, even the bulky ones too big for the car, so the infestation is quarantined and treated away from your home. Every job is fully insured and backed by a free re-wash guarantee.

Common questions
Can you get rid of moths in a rug, and what actually kills rug moths?
Yes, when you reach the eggs and larvae buried in the pile and foundation, not just the moths you can see. Mothballs, fly spray and surface vacuuming miss the larvae deep in a wool or antique rug, which is why it keeps coming back. We fully submerge and hand-wash the rug at our Yatala facility so the treatment reaches where moths actually breed, then return it fresh and fully dry. To keep them gone, we pair that with prevention advice, because adults or eggs can survive elsewhere in your home.
Do carpet moths ever go away, or is it impossible to get rid of them?
They do go away, but only when you treat the source rather than the symptoms. People exhaust themselves with sprays and still lose, because the eggs survive in the deep pile and elsewhere in the home. Our immersion hand-wash removes the eggs, larvae and the dirt that attracts them, and we return the rug fully dry so there is nothing left for the next generation to feed on. For valuable wool and handmade rugs, a regular professional clean helps keep them gone.
Does vinegar kill carpet moth eggs, or will a normal carpet clean sort it out?
Not reliably. Vinegar and home sprays do not consistently kill eggs and larvae, and a normal carpet clean or steam only treats the top of the pile, missing the eggs and larvae living in the foundation and along the fringes. That is the difference with our process: we never steam over your rug like carpet, we fully immerse and hand-wash it so the treatment reaches the parts where moths breed.
Will the treatment be safe for my pets and my kids?
Yes. We use non-toxic products that are safe for pets and children, which matters especially for cat owners and for parents whose children crawl and play on the rug. Because we wash off-site at Yatala and return the rug fully dry, there is no insecticide residue or damp coming back into your home. You do not have to choose between clearing the moths and keeping a low-tox house.
Is it worth treating, or should I just buy a new rug, and do you really come to Northern NSW?
We give you a straight answer with no scare tactics. At pickup our IICRC-certified technicians inspect the rug and tell you honestly whether cleaning and treatment make sense, especially for a wool, silk, Persian or sentimental piece worth saving. If older holes or bald patches remain after washing, we say so up front, and the rug still comes back fresh and safe to use. Yes, we genuinely service Northern NSW as well as South East QLD, with free pickup and delivery, including rugs too big for the car. Standard turnaround is about 7 days, with a 48-hour option on request for an active infestation. We quote by the size, fibre and condition of your rug, and you save $20 on every additional rug in the same booking.
