From your front door to our Yatala facility and safely back again. This is the real process, not a quick spray.
The damage with rug storage is that you never see it happening
A renovation runs over. A move drags on. You downsize and there is nowhere to put the good rug yet, so it gets rolled up and shoved in a garage, a cupboard or a self-storage unit, and forgotten. The trouble is that everything that wrecks a rug happens quietly in the dark. Trapped moisture turns musty and then mouldy in our humid climate. Moths find the dirt left in the pile and breed in it. Folded creases set hard. Months later you pull it out and, as our customers put it, it smells too stale for the house, and the harm is already done. Storing a rug properly is not a shelf to put it on. It is cleaning it first, controlling the conditions and checking on it through the season.

Specialist care, not a quick spray
Your rug is collected and brought to our dedicated washing facility, where it is hand-assessed and cleaned by fibre, then dried under control. A deep, safe clean that protects the rug you love, backed by 29 years and a 7-day free re-wash guarantee.
Built to protect your rug
Every storage guide says Step 1 is a deep clean, and most people skip it. Our IICRC-certified technicians hand-wash your rug by full immersion at our Yatala facility first, flushing out the dirt, eggs and larvae that feed moths and cause the stale smell. It is built into the price, not an upsell, because it is the one thing that keeps a stored rug safe.
Your rug is rolled firmly with the pile out, breathable-wrapped, raised off the floor and kept cool, dry and dark, never folded, never bagged in plastic, never flat on a slab. That is a rug specialist who knows how wool behaves through a wet season, not a generic locker that simply holds a box.
We quote per rug on size, fibre and how long you need it, with the figure agreed before we collect. No creeping monthly charges, no surprise on the invoice, the trap people fall into when a rug gets stuck between properties and the meter quietly keeps running.
We collect for free, even a heavy three-metre rug you cannot fit in the car, and deliver it back free when you are ready. Your rug is insured the whole time, which matters because home contents cover often excludes antique and Persian rugs, and we photograph and tag it at pickup so you get your exact rug back.

Common questions
What is the best way to store a rug?
Deep clean it first, roll it firmly with the pile facing out, wrap it in something breathable rather than plastic, and keep it dry, off the concrete and out of the heat. It is fiddly and easy to get wrong, and a rug stored even slightly damp or dirty comes out stale or mouldy. We do all of it for you, cleaned at our Yatala facility, rolled and breathable-wrapped, stored dry and elevated and checked through the season, so you never carry that risk yourself.
Should rugs be rolled or folded?
Always rolled, never folded. Folding sets sharp creases into the foundation that can become permanent, especially in wool, while a firm roll with the pile out keeps the rug relaxed. We roll yours correctly and store it lying horizontally rather than standing on its end, so it does not deform under its own weight and comes back ready to lay flat, not fighting you.
Do dust mites live in wool rugs?
They can, along with moth larvae, and that is exactly why cleaning before storage is not optional. They feed on the skin cells, dander and dirt trapped deep in the pile, so a rug rolled away dirty becomes their food source in the dark. Our immersion hand-wash flushes that out of the foundation, and we wrap and store the rug so nothing gets back in, using non-toxic products safe around pets and children.
What is the 18 inch rule for rugs?
The 18-inch rule is a layout guide for when a rug is down: leave roughly 18 inches of bare floor between the rug edge and the walls in a large room, so the room feels balanced. It does not affect storage, but it is worth knowing for when your rug comes home. We deliver it back fully dry and ready to lay straight down in the spot you want it.
How much does professional rug storage cost?
We quote per rug based on its size, fibre and how long you need it, because a small wool rug for a few weeks and a large antique for months are not the same job. Call 1800 655 949 for a clear price up front with no surprise fees, so you are never stung by the escalating storage charges people hit when a rug is stuck between locations. More than one rug saves you $20 on each additional one in the same booking.
