From your front door to our Yatala facility and safely back again. This is the real process, not a quick spray.
Why an oriental rug needs more than a quick steam clean
As one rug owner put it, "my loungeroom rug needs a proper clean, not the sort of thing carpet cleaners can do". Most people who ring us have already let a steam machine have a go, and it freshened the rug for a fortnight then went stale again. A top-down freshen-up never reaches the dust, grit and odour sitting deep in a hand-knotted wool pile. And the bigger fear is real: hot steam can over-saturate the fibres, loosen natural dyes and shrink the foundation, so the rug returns stiff, smaller or bled. A rug rolled up in storage carries that musty smell straight back into the room.
A carpet cleaner with a van can ruin a fine rug
One-size-fits-all carpet machines are the number one cause of rug damage. Here is exactly what goes wrong.
Don't risk a one-size-fits-all clean on a rug you love

Specialist care, not a quick spray
Your rug is collected and brought to our dedicated washing facility, where it is hand-assessed and cleaned by fibre, then dried under control. A deep, safe clean that protects the rug you love, backed by 29 years and a 7-day free re-wash guarantee.
Built to protect your rug
We never feed your rug through an automated washing machine and never blast it with hot steam. It is dusted, full-immersion hand-washed in clean water at controlled temperatures, then controlled-dried at our dedicated Yatala facility, never in a van or in your home.
Your rug is photographed and tagged at free pickup and tracked through a clear chain of custody, fully insured the whole way. The same rug that left your floor is the one we return, never batched, swapped or lost.
29 years and IICRC-certified technicians who dye-test and identify your rug, hand-knotted, wool, silk or antique, then match the method to the piece rather than running one machine over everything.
We inspect and photograph your rug at pickup and tell you straight what will and will not lift, even if that means saying a cheap machine-made piece is not worth washing. No scare tactics, no upsell, a straight answer before you spend a cent.
7 careful stages, all 15 steps
No shortcuts and no guessing. Your rug moves through the same specialist system every time, from your front door and safely back again.
Standard turnaround 7 days door to door, or 48-hour service on request.

Common questions
How expensive is it to clean an oriental rug?
We quote each rug by size, fibre and condition rather than a flat rate, because a small wool rug and a large silk piece are not the same job. You get a clear price up front before any work starts, with no surprises on the bill, and free pickup and delivery is included across Northern NSW. Save $20 on every extra rug in the same booking, so three rugs is $40 off. Call 1800 655 949 and describe your rug for a quote.
Can I steam clean my oriental rug, and why does steam destroy it?
We strongly advise against it, which is why we never use steam. Steam over-saturates the fibres, loosens natural dyes so they bleed, and shrinks the wool unevenly, and over-wetting that is not dried creates mould. On a handmade rug that damage is usually permanent. Instead we dust, dye-test for colour-fastness, then full-immersion hand-wash in controlled-temperature water and dry under control, so nothing is cooked or distorted.
Can you machine wash an oriental rug?
Not the way you should clean a hand-knotted rug. An automated washing machine and a domestic machine both agitate and over-wet the wool, fray the fringe and stress the foundation. Every Premier rug is washed by hand in a full-immersion process at our Yatala facility, the same traditional method these rugs were made for. We control the water temperature and the drying so the rug comes back true to shape, not felted or shrunk.
My rug is an inherited heirloom that has never been cleaned. How do I know it is safe?
This is one of the most common reasons people call us, and we treat it accordingly. Your rug is photographed and tagged at free pickup, handled through a clear chain of custody and fully insured the whole time, so your exact rug comes back, never swapped or lost. We are dedicated rug-only specialists with 29 years behind us and a 4.9 rating from 8,550 reviews, and we back the work with a 7-day free re-wash.
My rug smells musty after being rolled up or stored. Can you fix it?
Yes, and it is a very common one. A stale, musty smell from a stored or rolled-up rug, or after a humid spell, sits deep in the pile where a quick steam clean cannot reach. We dust, full-immersion hand-wash and then controlled-dry your rug, which removes the odour at the source and prevents the mould that comes from a rug never dried properly. As our customers say, it comes back fresh enough to lay straight back down.
