From your front door to our Yatala facility and safely back again. This is the real process, not a quick spray.
A carpet cleaner cannot give an oriental rug the clean it needs
If you have an oriental or Persian rug, you already sense it is not the sort of thing a carpet cleaner can do. People let a steam cleaner have a go and it freshens the rug for a fortnight, then the stale musty smell and the dog come straight back, because the dirt and odour are deep in the foundation, not on the surface. And the worry runs deeper than that. These rugs are hand-knotted from natural wool and silk, coloured with dyes that were never made for hot steam or a wand in your lounge. Heat can felt and shrink the wool, untested water can run the reds into the ivory, and the fringe is part of the weave, not a trim to shred. When a rug is sentimental or handed down, you do not want it treated like a normal carpet job.
A carpet cleaner with a van can ruin a fine rug
One-size-fits-all carpet machines are the number one cause of rug damage. Here is exactly what goes wrong.

Common questions
How expensive is it to clean an oriental rug?
We quote per rug by size, fibre and condition rather than a flat carpet-style rate, because a small wool rug and a large silk piece are not the same job. Tell us the rough dimensions and what is going on with it and we will give you an honest price up front, free pickup and delivery included with no surprise travel fee. Book more than one rug in the same collection and you save $20 off every additional rug.
Why does steam cleaning destroy an oriental rug?
Hot steam over-saturates natural fibres and can loosen the dyes so colours bleed, shrink the wool unevenly so the rug distorts, and leave moisture trapped in the foundation that breeds mould and musty smell. Hand-knotted rugs were never built for it. We hand-wash instead, dye-testing first and washing by full immersion, never a hot blast of steam, then dry under control so nothing is left damp.
Can I clean an oriental rug myself, machine wash or steam it at home?
We would not recommend it. A washing machine will wreck a hand-knotted rug, and home steam or hot water can felt the wool, shrink the foundation and run the natural dyes. A light vacuum between washes is fine, but the deep clean an oriental rug needs is a tested, full immersion hand-wash, which is exactly what we do at our facility rather than on your floor.
My rug has been rolled up or in storage and smells musty. Can you fix that?
Yes, it is one of the most common jobs we do. A stale, musty storage smell sits deep in the foundation where a surface steam cannot reach, which is why it keeps coming back after every humid spell. Full immersion hand-washing flushes it out and controlled drying stops it returning, so the rug comes back smelling neutral and fresh enough to lay straight back down.
How often should you have your oriental rugs cleaned?
For a rug in regular use, a professional wash every two to three years is a sensible rhythm, sooner for a high-traffic room or a home with pets. Inherited or long-stored rugs that have never been properly cleaned often hold decades of dust deep in the pile and are worth doing once they come out. We will tell you honestly at inspection whether yours needs it yet rather than push an unnecessary wash.
