How can I clean my rug naturally at home, and when should I stop and call a pro?
For light upkeep, vacuum both sides regularly, blot spills straight away with cool water, and air the rug outside. These keep the surface tidy but cannot lift the dust set deep in wool. The moment you are dealing with a wool, silk or antique rug, set-in odour or allergy symptoms, stop before you risk shrinking or bleeding it, and let us hand-wash it by full immersion instead.
How do I clean a rug without washing it, or one that is not washable?
Many handmade, silk and antique rugs are not safe to soak at home because the dyes can run and the fibres can felt. Short term, vacuum gently, beat out loose dust outdoors and spot-treat with cool water only. But surface cleaning never reaches the embedded grit. We dye-test and check colourfastness first, then control the water and the dry, so even a delicate rug gets a true wash without the damage you risk doing yourself.
Will my rug come back smelling of chemicals or fragrance? I have allergies and asthma.
