From your front door to our Yatala facility and safely back again. This is the real process, not a quick spray.
Why an antique rug needs a specialist, not a carpet cleaner
A truck-mounted steam unit or an in-home portable machine only freshens the surface, it never gives an old rug the wash it actually needs. Antique and hand-knotted rugs were made before colourfast synthetic dyes existed, the foundation can be fragile after generations of use, and years rolled up in storage leave a stale, musty smell soaked deep into the pile. That is exactly the kind of job a carpet cleaner cannot do. If the rug belonged to family, you are fussy about who handles it, and you are right to be.
A carpet cleaner with a van can ruin a fine rug
One-size-fits-all carpet machines are the number one cause of rug damage. Here is exactly what goes wrong.
Don't risk a one-size-fits-all clean on a rug you love

Specialist care, not a quick spray
Your rug is collected and brought to our dedicated washing facility, where it is hand-assessed and cleaned by fibre, then dried under control. A deep, safe clean that protects the rug you love, backed by 29 years and a 7-day free re-wash guarantee.
Built to protect your rug
Unlike operators who run rugs through a machine or steam them on-site, we hand-wash yours by full immersion at our dedicated Yatala facility, the only way to flush deep musty odour and ground-in grime from an old rug, never done in your home or a van.
Your rug is recorded at pickup and tracked through a clear chain of custody, so the piece that leaves your Toowoomba door is the exact one returned to it. Fully insured from pickup to delivery, with a real person on the phone throughout.
We dye and colour-fastness test first, then tell you plainly what is realistic, including flagging dry rot, a weak foundation or old stains that may not fully lift. With an heirloom you want honesty over over-promising, so that is what you get.
We avoid the heat that shrinks wool and silk, using a gentle full-immersion wash matched to your rug rather than a hot blast. Non-toxic, pet and child safe products, so the rug comes back refreshed, not over-cleaned.
7 careful stages, all 15 steps
No shortcuts and no guessing. Your rug moves through the same specialist system every time, from your front door and safely back again.

Common questions
Is it worth cleaning an old or antique rug?
Usually yes. A genuine hand-wash lifts years of ground-in dust, clears a stale storage smell and brings tired colours back, often making an old rug well worth keeping over replacing it. Because every rug is different, we inspect yours first and give you an honest answer, including telling you if it is not worth the spend, before any cost is involved. To talk it through, phone 1800 655 949.
How do you clean an old vintage rug?
Your rug is collected and taken to our Yatala facility, never cleaned in your home or a van. There it is gently hand-washed by full immersion in a controlled environment, by IICRC-certified technicians who have specialised in rugs only for 29 years. We dye test first and avoid the heat that shrinks wool and silk, then dry it carefully. That is the proper clean an old rug needs.
Can I put baking soda or vinegar over an antique rug at home?
We would not recommend it on an antique. Baking soda, vinegar and a hired carpet machine only freshen the surface, and they can set stains or disturb delicate old dyes that were never colourfast to begin with. On an irreplaceable piece the risk is not worth it. A full-immersion hand-wash flushes the fibres right through instead of pushing grime and moisture deeper, which is what causes the damage.
Can you get the musty, stale storage smell out of an antique rug?
Yes. A musty smell from years rolled up or a humid spell sits deep in the pile, which is why home sprays only mask it and it returns in the next damp spell. Our full-immersion hand-wash flushes the fibres right through with non-toxic, pet and child safe products, so the rug comes back smelling neutral rather than stale, ready to put straight back down.
How do I bring an old rug back to life without ruining it?
Carefully, and not with a home cleaner. Before any water touches it we run a colourfast dye test, because old natural dyes are not always stable, and we avoid the heat that shrinks wool and silk. Your rug is inspected and recorded at pickup with a clear chain of custody, stays at our Yatala facility, is fully insured, and is backed by a 7-day free re-wash plus your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
