From your front door to our Yatala facility and safely back again. This is the real process, not a quick spray.
Most cleaners treat an Afghan rug like wall-to-wall carpet, and that is exactly how it gets ruined
The owners who call us almost all say the same thing: they did not want their hand-knotted Afghan rug treated like a carpet. A truck-mount steam extractor and a quick van job are built for synthetic broadloom, not tribal wool, and the warm water and high-alkaline detergent strip the lanolin out of the pile, leaving it dry, rough and dull, and can drive unstable vegetable dyes into the lighter cream. After a long wet season the rug smells musty and mould-shadowed, and a surface clean only masks that for a week before it lifts straight back out of the damp foundation. Rush the drying and it comes back damp all over again, the loose fringe that catches underfoot never gets sorted, and on an Afghan rug condition is the single biggest driver of value, so one careless wash can quietly erase what a sentimental, irreplaceable rug is worth.
A carpet cleaner with a van can ruin a fine rug
One-size-fits-all carpet machines are the number one cause of rug damage. Here is exactly what goes wrong.

Specialist care, not a quick spray
Your rug is collected and brought to our dedicated washing facility, where it is hand-assessed and cleaned by fibre, then dried under control. A deep, safe clean that protects the rug you love, backed by 29 years and a 7-day free re-wash guarantee.
Built to protect your rug
Your rug is washed individually by full immersion at our Yatala facility by technicians who know hand-knotted wool, never batched with other rugs and never run through a carpet van or steam extractor. It is the proper clean a handmade rug needs.
South East QLD and Northern NSW is our stated service area, not a maybe. Our vans visit on set days each week, so free pickup and delivery is real, with no surcharge for the distance to Lismore, Byron, Ballina or the Tweed.
Full immersion flushes the mould-shadow smell out of the foundation where a wet season drives it, using non-toxic, pet and child safe products, then we dry the rug properly so it comes back fresh and fully dry, not damp.
We inspect and dye-test every rug and give you a straight answer before any water touches the pile, document it at pickup, can tidy a loose fringe, and stand behind the work with full insurance and a 7-day free re-wash guarantee on top of your Australian Consumer Law rights.

Common questions
How do I clean my Afghan rug, and can I just do it myself or steam-clean it?
We would not recommend DIY washing, steam cleaning or a shampooer on a hand-knotted Afghan. The vegetable dyes are rarely colourfast and harsh product or hot water strips the lanolin, leaving the pile dull and the colours at risk. The safe option is our full immersion hand-wash at our dedicated Yatala facility. Phone 1800 655 949 for free pickup and an honest assessment first.
Do you really come to Northern NSW, and is there an extra charge for the distance?
Yes, genuinely. South East QLD and Northern NSW is our stated service area, and our vans visit on set days every week, so free pickup and delivery is real with no distance surcharge. You drive your rug nowhere, and regional does not mean a longer wait. Standard turnaround is 7 days door to door, with 48-hour on request.
There is a musty, mould smell after the wet season. Will it really go, or just be masked?
A surface clean only hides it until the rug dries out again. Our full immersion wash flushes the smell from the foundation level where wet-season damp drives it, using non-toxic, pet and child safe products, then we dry the rug properly so it returns fresh and fully dry, not damp. If damp has already caused a permanent mould stain, we will tell you honestly before we wash.
Will my Afghan rug be treated like a carpet, or actually hand-washed?
Actually hand-washed. Your rug is washed individually by full immersion at our Yatala facility, never batched with other rugs and never run through a carpet van or steam extractor. We are a rug-only specialist, not a carpet cleaner who treats everything the same, so hand-knotted wool is handled differently from a silk or synthetic rug. You are welcome to ask about the process when you call.
Can you also fix the loose fringe, and what if you damage the rug?
Yes. A loose fringe or binding that catches underfoot is a common ask on Afghan rugs, and we can tidy it while the rug is with us, explaining the options first. Standard turnaround is 7 days door to door with a 48-hour option on request. Should anything go wrong, you are protected by full insurance and a 7-day free re-wash guarantee on top of your Australian Consumer Law rights, the reassurance an irreplaceable or inherited rug deserves.
